World Boxing announced Friday, though, that Golovkin was the only eligible candidate remaining following a vetting process. World Boxing <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/worldboxing.org\/final-list-of-candidates-announced-for-elections-at-world-boxing-congress-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">didn\u2019t clarify<\/a> why Charilaos was no longer a candidate.<br \/>Golovkin <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/gennadiy-golovkin-declares-candidacy-president-world-boxing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">declared his candidacy<\/a> last month to rebuild boxing\u2019s relationship with the International Olympic Committee and secure the sweet science\u2019s long-term future in the Summer Games. It was announced in March that boxing will be a part of the 2028 Olympics program <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/ioc-approve-boxing-return-olympics-los-angeles-2028\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after momentarily having a murky future<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During retirement, Golovkin has served as president of Kazakhstan\u2019s National Olympic Committee and as the chair of World Boxing\u2019s Olympic Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Golovkin was a 2004 Olympic silver medalist and had a reported amateur record of 345-5 before turning pro in 2006. Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) had a decorated pro career and was a long-reigning former middleweight champion.<\/p>\n<p>Known as \u201cTriple-G,\u201d Golovkin has not fought since his rivalry with Canelo Alvarez concluded in 2022, but he stated earlier this week <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/gennadiy-golovkin-open-boxing-comeback\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cthe option of fighting again is not out of the question.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Golovkin will turn 44 in April.
