Image: Glenis Lindley \/ Speedcafe Archive <\/p>\n<p>Moffat died this morning, aged 86, after a long battle with Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian-born Moffat\u2019s achievements included four victories in the Great Race at Bathurst and four Australian Touring Car Championship titles.<\/p>\n<p>Moffat\u2019s passing was confirmed by his family via a post on the legend\u2019s official Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with deep sadness that the Moffat family announces the passing of Allan Moffat OBE, who died peacefully at 11:05 this morning, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer\u2019s disease,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllan Moffat leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, not only as a champion driver, but as a respected mentor, advocate, and friend to many.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be remembered for his unwavering passion, competitive spirit, and the profound impact he had on motorsport in Australia and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Moffat family asks for privacy during this time as they grieve the loss of their beloved father, grandfather, and friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-allan-moffats-photos-gallery-images-career-ford-falcon-mustang-mazda-holden\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PHOTOS: Allan Moffat\u2019s legendary career in images<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>A young Moffat moved to Australia with his family in the late 1950s and went on to become a household name as Ford\u2019s local racing hero.<\/p>\n<p>He made his Bathurst debut with the factory Ford team in 1969, the same year as the man who would become his greatest rival, Peter Brock.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned for his hard working, professional and sometimes stern nature, Moffat was the perfect foil to the Holden poster boy.<\/p>\n<p>Moffat took all four of his Bathurst victories for the Blue Oval in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>The first two came in the legendary Falcon GT-HOs in 1970 and \u201971.<\/p>\n<p>He won again aboard Falcon hardtops in \u201973 and \u201977, with the last of those triumphs achieved in a 1-2 finish for his Moffat Ford Dealers team.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1012168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SC-1977_Allan_Moffat_Bathurst_1000_Pits.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1318\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Moffat had also enjoyed success in the Australian Touring Car Championship in that era, taking the title in 1973, \u201976 and \u201977.<\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s withdrawal from motorsport led Moffat to Mazda and he claimed a fourth ATCC crown in 1983 with a factory-backed RX-7.<\/p>\n<p>Moffat went on to race Holdens early in the Group A era, teaming with Brock at Bathurst in 1986 in a once unthinkable partnership.<\/p>\n<p>He then combined with John Harvey to win the opening round of the 1987 World Touring Car Championship at Monza, Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Moffat retired from driving in 1989, aged 50, following victory in the Fuji 500 aboard a Ford Sierra RS500, but continued fielding entries in the Bathurst 1000 until 1996.<\/p>\n<p>He also featured as a commentator with Network Seven during the early days of the V8 era in the 1990s, as well as working as an ambassador for brands including Ford.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1012207\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SC-2017_Allan_Moffat_Autograph_Portrait.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Moffat went public with his dementia diagnosis in 2019 and was a patron of Dementia Australia, lending his considerable profile to the raising awareness and supporting affected families.<\/p>\n<p>The Allan Moffat Foundation continues this important work.<\/p>\n<p>Moffat leaves behind two sons, James and Andrew, with the former having followed in his father\u2019s footsteps to become a professional racing car driver.<\/p>\n<p>A string of honours include being appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and induction into the Supercars Hall of Fame and Australian Sports Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>  <a data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/t.cfjump.com\/92797\/b\/289522\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" alt=\"\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763784376_117_289522.png\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Allan Moffat.
