\n\tSeth Meyers<\/a> acknowledged that there is a lot of uncertainty about late-night TV<\/a> shows following the cancellation<\/a> of The Late Show<\/a> With Stephen Colbert<\/a>. During an appearance on the podcast Armchair Expert, Meyers reflected on how the end of his own show, Late Night With Seth Meyers<\/a>, would impact him.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the podcast, which was recorded in May, host Dax Shepard asked if Meyers had any fear that Late Night might \u201cend tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do,\u201d Meyers admitted. \u201cI mean, only because it is such a time we\u2019re living in, as far as the entertainment industry. There is this weird thing that I feel like I shifted from fearing that I wouldn\u2019t be good enough. And now my fear is weirdly more outside of my control, which is\u2026 just at some point, the ecosystem might not support [late night]. I guess that\u2019s better than thinking it\u2019s your fault, but it is weird to not feel any control over it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tHe added that he tries to focus on what he can control, which is hosting the show. \u201cThat\u2019s the only part they\u2019re paying you to do. It\u2019s the only part you\u2019re good at,\u201d Meyers said. \u201cAll the other problems, we have people that are as good at that as you are at the thing you do \u2014 and don\u2019t mess around with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLater, co-host Monica Padman asked Meyers about his financial stability if Late Night did get cancelled.\u00a0Meyers said he is more worried about his mental stability. \u201cI would worry about myself mental health-wise,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I put a lot of thought into diversifying my skill set. Certainly, financially, I could have been fine just doing the show for the last eleven years. But then it was like, \u2018Oh, you know what? I feel like there\u2019s something to trying to build a stand-up career and trying to do other things.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cIt\u2019s more like, \u2018Try to find something that makes you as happy as late night\u2019s making you.\u2019 But it\u2019s not just to have busy work or anything. It\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, I like these things, too.\u2019 And there\u2019s no one entity that can take everything away at once, and I think that\u2019s the scariest situation to be in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this month, CBS announced<\/a> that The Late Show would come to end next May, citing \u201cfinancial\u201d reasons. Although CBS lauded the show for being the top-rated late-night show for nine seasons, calling it a \u201cstaple of the nation\u2019s zeitgeist,\u201d many have speculated that the cancellation is political<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tOn a recent episode, Colbert acknowledged that \u201cnow for the next 10 months, the gloves are off.\u201d He said, \u201cI can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0starting right now. I don\u2019t really care for him. Doesn\u2019t seem to have the skill set to be president. Just not a good fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
