Police are investigating after a man who allegedly shot at officers during an attempted arrest was later found dead on a property in Canberra’s south last night.<\/p>\n
ACT Policing said officers went to the house on Galloway Street in Isabella Plains at about 7:50pm to arrest a 71-year-old man for serious family violence offences allegedly committed against his partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n
His partner was in hospital, police said, being treated for her injuries. \u00a0<\/p>\n
When police arrived, the man allegedly fired several shots at them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police said they returned fire and the man barricaded himself in a shed, refusing to speak to police. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nearby residents were evacuated and the street was cordoned off.<\/p>\n
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) tactical response and bomb response teams were called in, while specialist negotiators tried to negotiate with the man.<\/p>\n
The man was found dead at about 11:50pm from suspected self-inflicted injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
No officers were injured during the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
