{"id":30364,"date":"2025-07-29T16:27:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T16:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/30364\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T16:27:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T16:27:09","slug":"microsoft-reveals-a-list-of-jobs-about-to-be-destroyed-by-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/30364\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft reveals a list of jobs about to be destroyed by AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s RIP for journalists (\ud83e\udd72), and many other professions, according to Microsoft Research.<\/p>\n<p>In a new paper recently <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/publication\/working-with-ai-measuring-the-occupational-implications-of-generative-ai\/?msockid=3e17f0da45306c3d2926e6e2445b6d7d\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/publication\/working-with-ai-measuring-the-occupational-implications-of-generative-ai\/?msockid=3e17f0da45306c3d2926e6e2445b6d7d\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">published by Microsoft&#8217;s research division<\/a>, a team of data scientists revealed a variety of professions most likely to be impacted by <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/artificial-intelligence\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-redirect=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/artificial-intelligence\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a> based on a variety of factors. The team studied the United States job market specifically, although it stands to reason that, without some form of global regulation, these predictions could apply to virtually any developed or developing nation right now.<\/p>\n<p>The study determines how &#8220;applicable&#8221; AI is to certain job roles, which in theory could be used to enhance productivity therein, but in practice, will most likely be used to justify reducing team sizes \u2014 outsourcing human work to AI models. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/microsoft\/report-microsofts-2025-layoffs-revolve-around-its-desperate-usd80-billion-ai-infrastructure-investment\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/microsoft\/report-microsofts-2025-layoffs-revolve-around-its-desperate-usd80-billion-ai-infrastructure-investment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft itself is thought to have laid off over 15,000 people this year due to the &#8220;application&#8221; of AI<\/a>, and prioritizing its growth over other parts of the business. It&#8217;s all largely impersonal, easily digitizable work that can be reproduced easily by AI. I ranked the table by the score, from most at risk to least at risk, according to the research paper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">All the latest news, reviews, and guides for Windows and Xbox diehards.<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised to see things like models on the list, but it makes sense when you can easily ask ChatGPT or Copilot to generate an image of a model doing anything you want with a simple command prompt. Jobs like massage therapists, builders, roofers, engineers, and surgeons seem safe from AI today. I often see investors and technologists hand-wave and apply analogies like &#8220;cars destroyed the horse and cart industry,&#8221; but increasingly, we&#8217;re seeing governments waking up to the absolute carnage this technology could wreak.<\/p>\n<p>With our entire economic system revolving around work, and increasingly white collar work, vast unemployment, the likes of which has never been seen before, could trigger all sorts of social turmoil. Governments certainly seem ill-prepared for the AI worst-case scenario situations, even before you <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/software-apps\/sam-altman-agi-will-come-sooner-than-anticipated\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/software-apps\/sam-altman-agi-will-come-sooner-than-anticipated\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">consider artificial general intelligence and self-replicating improvement models<\/a> that are on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>AI could turbocharge inequality and wealth disparity, with societies voting for populist candidates who promise a world of change while delivering more of the same. There&#8217;s only so much bullshit society can take, and AI could be the spark to tip it over the edge.<\/p>\n<p>But what about the benefits? <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/software-apps\/microsoft-new-ai-4x-more-accurate-20-percent-cheaper-than-human-doctors\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/software-apps\/microsoft-new-ai-4x-more-accurate-20-percent-cheaper-than-human-doctors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI could speed up disease and cancer solutions<\/a>, able to experiment, comprehend, and parse data far faster than huge teams of scientists could manually. Perhaps AI itself comes up with economic solutions to solve the looming unemployment crisis, with some form of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/microsoft\/microsofts-ai-ceo-mustafa-suleyman-says-we-wont-need-hard-dollars-in-the-ai-era-intelligence-will-be-the-new-currency\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/microsoft\/microsofts-ai-ceo-mustafa-suleyman-says-we-wont-need-hard-dollars-in-the-ai-era-intelligence-will-be-the-new-currency\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">distributed universal basic income<\/a>, touted by some, as freeing humanity from the toils of work in general.<\/p>\n<p>I tend to gravitate towards more <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/software-apps\/bill-gates-says-gen-z-should-worry-about-4-very-scary-things\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/software-apps\/bill-gates-says-gen-z-should-worry-about-4-very-scary-things\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cynical expectations about the future<\/a> \u2014 but much like the industrial revolution, it created plenty of turmoil, but it&#8217;s undeniable how it advanced society as a whole.
