{"id":303993,"date":"2025-11-23T18:33:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T18:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/303993\/"},"modified":"2025-11-23T18:33:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T18:33:07","slug":"double-dq-mclaren-piastri-norris-react-to-las-vegas-f1-skid-wear-stuff-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/303993\/","title":{"rendered":"Double DQ\u2014McLaren, Piastri, Norris react to Las Vegas F1 skid wear stuff-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Max Verstappen has won big in Vegas thanks to the double disqualification of his McLaren rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>The FIA handed down its shock decision after finding excessive wear on the rear skid plates of both McLarens, stripping Norris of second place and Piastri of fourth\u2014in doing so, significantly altering the race for the 2025 drivers championship with just two grand pix remaining.<\/p>\n<p>McLaren has since <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mclaren.com\/racing\/formula-1\/2025\/las-vegas-grand-prix\/race-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">released a statement<\/a> expressing frustration with the outcome that sees both drivers lose all points from the race, but it seems there will be no challenge, at least not for now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the race, both cars experienced unexpected, high levels of porpoising not seen in the Practice sessions, which led to excessive contact with the ground,\u201d explained McLaren team boss Andrea Stella.<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a data-testid=\"card--article-thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/au\/formula-1\/standings\" role=\"article\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">F1 standings 2025: Driver and constructor points<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are investigating the reasons for this behaviour of the car, including the effect of accidental damage sustained by both cars, which we found after the race, and that led to an increase of movement of the floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe apologise to Lando and Oscar for the loss of points today at a critical time in their Championship campaigns after two strong performances from them all weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We clearly didn\u2019t get that balance right today\u2019 laments Lando Norris<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly the biggest loser of the DQ decision is 2025 drivers championship leader Lando Norris, who has seen his margin over the resurgent Max Verstappen now reduced to just 24 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating to lose so many points.
