Hit by a car this past week, Thibault Guernalec<\/a> became the second professional rider in a few days to suffer a collision with a vehicle. Only days earlier, Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx\u2013Protime) was struck from behind by a driver<\/a> who failed to stop.<\/p>\n

While Wiebes did not suffer any injuries, the same could not be said for the French rider.<\/p>\n

His Ark\u00e9a\u2011B&B Hotels team shared on social media<\/a> that the 28-year-old rider suffered \u201cmultiple fractures (lumbar vertebra, finger), as well as a concussion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guernalec simply doesn\u2019t remember this crash, as he shared his harrowing story with Le Telegramme<\/a>, the day after he had surgery for his lumbar vertebra fracture.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat scares me is that I don\u2019t remember anything,\u201d Guernalec told the Breton newspaper. “I don’t remember going for a ride, I don’t remember texting my loved ones before I left. I don’t remember the accident either.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy speedometer only tells me I was going 50 km\/h, on a slight downhill. For almost four hours after that, it’s a complete blackout. I have no memory of anything. Nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

To make matters worse, Guernalec is still searching for a team after Ark\u00e9a-B&B Hotels folded this year. However, also according to Le T\u00e9l\u00e9gramme, he is expected to join TotalEnergies next season, though nothing has been officially announced.<\/p>\n

While Guernalec won\u2019t be able to get back onto his bike for at least six weeks, he is reflecting on the risks and dangers linked to his sport. But he didn\u2019t want to comment on his future in the heat of the moment.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Guernalec opened his season with a strong fifth overall at the \u00c9toile de Bess\u00e8ges but missed the Tour de France after fracturing his hand.
