Matthew McConaughey<\/a> is returning to the screen with a vengeance. The iconic actor took a six-year break from live-action roles, and now is back with the moving true story of a hero in \u201cThe Lost Bus<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

McConaughey stars as a wayward school bus driver who partners with a dedicated school teacher (America Ferrera<\/a>) to save 22 children from a terrifying inferno. Yul Vazquez, Spencer Watson, and Ashlie Atkinson also star. The logline reads: \u201cA determined father risks everything to rescue a teacher and her students from a raging wildfire.\u201d <\/p>\n

Oscar-nominated \u201cUnited 93\u201d director\u00a0Paul Greengrass helms the film<\/a> which is inspired by real events<\/a>. Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby co-wrote the feature, based on the book \u201cParadise: One Town\u2019s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire\u201d by Lizzie Johnson. Ingelsby, Jason Blum, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Gregory Goodman are producing the Apple Original Film, which the studio deemed a \u201cwhite-knuckle ride through one of America\u2019s deadliest wildfires.\u201d Amy Lord and author Johnson are executive producing. <\/p>\n

\"'Trap'<\/a> \"My<\/a> <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lost Bus\u201d is McConaughey\u2019s second release of 2025; he also led \u201cThe Rivals of Amziah King\u201d<\/a>\u00a0which premiered in March at SXSW. McConaughey told Variety<\/a> that his time away from Hollywood led to his love of acting being reinvigorated. <\/p>\n

\u201cI remembered a couple of things: One, how much I truly enjoy performing. Two, I remembered, \u2018hey, McConaughey, you\u2019re pretty damn good at this,\u2019\u201d\u00a0he said. \u201cAnd three, I remembered that acting is a vacation for me, and what I mean by vacation is that when I\u2019m performing, it\u2019s my singular focus. When I walk out the door in the morning, my wife says, \u2018Go kick some ass. I got the kiddos. We\u2019re good.\u2019 That\u2019s vacation. Because I\u2019m not multitasking. I\u2019m not compartmentalizing. I\u2019m fully focused on finding the truth of my character.\u201d<\/p>\n

McConaughey is set to reunite with his \u201cTrue Detective\u201d collaborator<\/a> Nic Pizzolatto for a \u201cMike Hammer\u201d feature based on the private investigator character. Pizzolatto wrote the screenplay based on the book series by Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lost Bus\u201d premieres in select theaters on September 19, before debuting globally on Apple TV+ Friday, October 3.
