A father and son from Western Sydney have faced court after allegedly assaulting two referees at a Rugby 7s competition in Canberra earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Fagalima Faumui, 42, and his 18-year-old son Daniel Fagalimafaumui, who are from the suburb of Fairfield, were both issued a single count of assault over the allegations.<\/p>\n

An ACT Policing spokesperson previously alleged<\/a> that the incident occurred during the junior Rugby 7s tournament held at Southwell Park playing fields in Lyneham around 3 pm on 21 September.<\/p>\n

It is alleged that the father and son entered the playing fields before Mr Fagalimafaumui assaulted the first referee.<\/p>\n

When a second referee tried to help the first, Mr Faumui allegedly \u2018coward\u2019 punched the second from behind.<\/p>\n

This referee was allegedly knocked unconscious and taken to hospital.<\/p>\n

Mr Faumui and Mr Fagalimafaumui were both formally charged when they faced the ACT Magistrates Court for the first time on Monday (24 November).<\/p>\n

Their lawyer, Legal Aid\u2019s Donovan Kelso, asked for both their matters to be adjourned for ongoing legal advice and to process their applications for assistance from his service.<\/p>\n

Their matters were adjourned to 13 January 2026.<\/p>\n
