Following the death of The Stone Roses<\/a> legend Mani, fans have been re-sharing a brilliant clip of him at the NME Awards in 2008.<\/p>\n

The legendary bassist was best recognised for his time in The Stone Roses and formerly Primal Scream<\/a>. He died last Thursday<\/a> (November 20), aged 63.<\/p>\n

News of his passing was shared by his brother Greg, who wrote on social media: \u201cIt is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother gary mani mounfield.\u201d Tributes then came in<\/a> from the likes of Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown<\/a>, Primal Scream\u2019s Simone Butler, Liam Gallagher<\/a> and many more.<\/p>\n

Now, fans have been remembering their fond memories of the charismatic rock icon by resharing footage of Mani over the years. One in particular that has been making the rounds online is a clip of him at the NME Awards in 2008, which perfectly shows his big personality and tongue-in-cheek humour.<\/p>\n

Posted numerous times on different accounts on Instagram over the weekend, the clip shows the musician taking to the stage with his Primal Scream bandmate Bobby Gillespie to present the award for Best Album. He began by making a quip at how quiet the audience had been up until then.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow are you all doing? Fucking hell, you woke up,\u201d he said, before joking: \u201cIt\u2019s been like a Leonard Cohen<\/a> B-side at a snooker tournament in fucking space.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the crowd burst into laughter at the jab, he went on to say: \u201cRight then, that\u2019s more like it. Alright, what are we here for? It\u2019s the nominations for the Best Album which isn\u2019t a [Primal] Scream album this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRIP Mani what a character sadly missed,\u201d one fan commented on the post, while another agreed and shared: \u201cAmazing. What an absolute legend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMani you fuckin turned my world upside down, I will miss you immensely,\u201d a third commented. \u201cThank you so much for your talent and your staying true to your roots man, RIP my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Remembering the time at the 2008 ceremony, The Cribs<\/a> also shared a picture of Mani on the night and recalled an interaction they had with him while at the NME Awards.<\/p>\n

In a post on X\/Twitter, the band shared that Mani came up to them and asked what it was like \u201cto be in a band with a legend\u201d. Assuming that he meant Smiths<\/a> legend Johnny Marr<\/a>, Mani then went on to joke: \u201cnah mate, I meant your kid\u201d.<\/p>\n

In their tribute to the Stone Roses legend, The Cribs went on to describe Mani as \u201cso funny\u201d and \u201ca really nice guy\u201d.<\/p>\n

Since news of Mani\u2019s death, both Oasis<\/a> and Richard Ashcroft<\/a> paid respects to the musician during their respective performances in Brazil over the weekend. The latter dedicated The Verve<\/a> classic \u2018Bittersweet Symphony\u2019 to him<\/a>, while Liam and Noel Gallagher<\/a> honoured him on \u2018Live Forever\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also this weekend, My Bloody Valentine<\/a> kicked off their first tour in seven years in Dublin and dedicated the gig to the icon<\/a>, and Primal Scream paid tribute to Mani at their Manchester Warehouse Project show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a tribute to the late musician<\/a>, NME described how Mani \u201cheld a rare place in the world of bass heroes\u201d as he \u201cdefined a scene with some of the most infectious and hypnotic basslines ever recorded.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth weighty and melodic, Mani\u2019s bewitching basslines became the bedrock and, often, the driving force of The Roses\u2019 breakthrough tracks \u2018Elephant Stone\u2019, \u2018Made Of Stone\u2019 and \u2018She Bangs The Drums\u2019, and underpinned the band\u2019s low-slung funk development on \u2018Fools Gold\u2019 \u2013 arguably a four-minute encapsulation of the entire late-\u201980s dance rock scene,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n
