\n\tHugh Jackman<\/a> recently appeared on \u201cThe Graham Norton Show\u201d (via Entertainment Weekly<\/a>), where he proclaimed that he will never say he is never playing Wolverine<\/a> again. Jackman announced he was done playing the iconic X-Men superhero after 2017\u2019s \u201cLogan,\u201d which ended with the character\u2019s death. But Jackman wasn\u2019t being truthful. He returned as Wolverine seven years later in the 2024 Marvel blockbuster \u201cDeadpool and Wolverine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEvery time you\u2019re on [talk show], you gotta go, \u2018Nope, I\u2019m not doing that again.\u2019 But then you keep making another one. And it\u2019s a big big hit. So are you gonna have to do it again?\u201d Jackman said. \u201cMaybe. I am never saying \u2018never\u2019 ever again\u2026 But I did mean it when I said \u2018never\u2019 [the first time], until the day when I changed my mind. But I really did for quite a few years, I meant it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring last year\u2019s \u201cDeadpool and Wolverine\u201d press tour, Jackman admitted that his feelings about staying in retirement from Wolverine were complicated after he saw the first \u201cDeadpool\u201d movie.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was like, \u2018Those two characters together.\u2019 I knew it. I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew,\u201d he told Fandango<\/a>. \u201cI rang Ryan [Reynolds]. And I just said, \u2018Let\u2019s do it.\u2019 Like, I hadn\u2019t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent and said, \u2018Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut not everyone was initially sold on the idea of Jackman coming back as Wolverine. Marvel Studios<\/a> president Kevin Feige\u00a0confirmed to Empire\u00a0<\/a>that he originally warned Jackman against playing Wolverine again.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI said, \u2018Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don\u2019t come back,\u2019\u201d Feige said. \u201c\u2018You had the greatest ending in history with\u00a0\u2018Logan.\u2019 That\u2019s not something we should undo.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Marvel movie fans eventually found out in \u201cDeadpool and Wolverine,\u201d Jackman did not return as the iteration of Wolverine he played for decades and hung up in \u201cLogan.\u201d Marvel\u2019s multiverse allowed the actor to play a new variant of Wolverine. Whether or not Jackman pops up as the mutant in next year\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d or its sequel, \u201cAvengers: Secret Wars,\u201d remains to be seen.
