\n\tRupert Grint<\/a> has confessed he doesn\u2019t feel as though he\u2019ll ever step out of Ron Weasley\u2019s shadow.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe British actor, beloved for his role in all of the Harry Potter<\/a> films from 2001 to 2011, opened up about passing the baton in an interview with the BBC<\/a> published over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\n\tGrint said he wrote a letter to Alastair Stout, the young actor tapped to take on the part of Ron in HBO<\/a>\u2018s hotly anticipated Harry Potter series. Last week, Daniel Radcliffe explained<\/a> he had done so with the titular star of the upcoming show, Dominic McLaughlin.<\/p>\n

\n\tGrint, who was 11 when he was cast as the redheaded Gryffindor in the movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2018s bestselling books, said about Stout: \u201cI wrote him a letter, before they started, passing the baton as it were. It was really just wishing him all the best with it. I had so much fun stepping into this world, and I hope he has the same experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s quite strange to have the cycle happening again,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m really intrigued what it\u2019s going to be like.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGrint said that when the new actors were announced, it took him \u201cstraight back\u201d to when he, Radcliffe and Emma Watson<\/a> (playing Hermione Granger) were cast: \u201cI still remember every second of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s great that it\u2019s a whole new thing,\u201d he said about the new series. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be its own thing, and I think that will be fun.\u201d When asked about whether he\u2019s grown tired of being associated with the franchise, Grint responded: \u201cAbsolutely not, I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt has a quite deep meaning to a lot of people of my generation, and even more to generations who are finding it now,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s great. It gives me a lot of pride. It was such a huge thing. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever quite step out of his shadow, but I\u2019m fine with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNaturally, Rowling\u2019s controversies also popped up. In 2020, Grint was one of several Harry Potter actors who distanced themselves from the author over her consistent criticism of transgender rights and trans activism.<\/p>\n

\n\tOnly recently, Rowling wrote a scathing post on X<\/a>, formerly Twitter, branding Watson \u201cignorant\u201d after the actress grabbed headlines for making neutral comments about Rowling\u2019s anti-trans stance. \u201cIt\u2019s my deepest wish that people who don\u2019t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don\u2019t necessarily share the same opinion with,\u201d Watson had said on a podcast in September. Rowling responded: \u201cShe has so little experience of real life she\u2019s ignorant of how ignorant she is.\u201d Grint declined to comment on the clash when asked.<\/p>\n

\n\tCould he be persuaded to do a Tom Felton<\/a> and reprise a Harry Potter role on Broadway? \u201cNever say never,\u201d the star said. \u201c\u201dBut for now, I think as much as I loved it, I\u2019m enjoying stepping outside of that world.\u201d<\/p>\n
