For nearly a decade, Denmark’s M\u00d8L have been making music within the fertile ground of blackgaze, the epically atmospheric zone where black metal intersects with shoegaze. Early next year, they’ll follow their 2021 album Diorama<\/a> with a new one called Dreamcrush. I think we can all agree that Dreamcrush is a very blackgaze album title.<\/p>\n

Along with the album announcement, M\u00d8L have shared two new tracks. “Young” has a big sense of surge and a triumphantly melodic riff, and it pulls off the rare trick of being merciless and pretty at the same time. “Garland,” which came out last month, introduces an element of Smashing Pumpkins-style grunge-pop razzle-dazzle amidst all the stormy intensity.
