He has been a member of the Rockies organization for over a decade and becomes the eighth full-time manager in club history.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>Things continued to slide downhill for Schaeffer and the Rockies, who finished with 119 losses &#8212; the most in the National League since the 1962 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"d08426cc-bf13-5d7b-5217-6d4662019bc6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/nym\/new-york-mets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Mets<\/a> had 120. They finished 50 games behind the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"fb7cf413-5156-9fc2-abe0-2273b89f70db\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/lad\/los-angeles-dodgers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> in the NL West.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re confident Warren is the right person to lead our club moving forward,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/46958490\/paul-depodesta-not-afraid-take-swings-turn-rockies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta<\/a> said in a statement. &#8220;He has established strong relationships with our players, understands the culture of this franchise and embodies the energy and work ethic we want on and off the field.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>General manager Bill Schmidt was dismissed on Oct. 1, with executive vice president Walker Monfort saying that Schmidt&#8217;s replacement would make a decision on the managerial role for next season.<\/p>\n<p>The starting rotation finished with a 6.65 ERA &#8212; the highest mark since it became an official stat in both leagues in 1913 &#8212; as the Rockies allowed 1,021 runs this season, the most since the 1996 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"b27c64bf-4f18-f713-ba06-db1bce2394e7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/det\/detroit-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Tigers<\/a> gave up 1,103. Colorado had a run differential of minus-424, the worst since 1900, surpassing the minus-349 of the 1932 <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c6df06f6-785d-3900-4935-5fd13742e2ee\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/bos\/boston-red-sox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Red Sox<\/a> &#8212; and also the most since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders at minus-724, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado was also a major-league-worst 18-63 on the road, a franchise record.<\/p>\n<p>There were some bright spots. The Rockies received a breakout season from All-Star catcher <a data-player-guid=\"5a773ef5-dc0a-34c9-b5f7-f88608ed5406\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4416591\/hunter-goodman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hunter Goodman<\/a>, who hit .278 with 31 homers and 91 RBIs. They have 2024 Gold Glove winners in <a data-player-guid=\"cf23a386-9d07-3b2b-8b03-1b13a5f71cbc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4905919\/ezequiel-tovar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ezequiel Tovar<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"9309a633-7fd3-30e3-9937-3354b4435bf7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42462\/brenton-doyle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brenton Doyle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Rockies also drafted Ethan Holliday with the No. 4 pick this summer, while young prospects such as outfielders <a data-player-guid=\"4b126822-160a-3632-9c86-4a3e5a417dc6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4717903\/zac-veen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zac Veen<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"d3196322-752d-30ed-b435-a46d4150de88\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4917793\/yanquiel-fernandez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yanquiel Fernandez<\/a>, infielder <a data-player-guid=\"940ec0b5-dd2d-301f-ac21-466ece73f2af\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5196606\/ryan-ritter\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Ritter<\/a> and right-hander <a data-player-guid=\"fe4669a0-1858-366c-a256-c5170a0683c4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4719068\/chase-dollander\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chase Dollander<\/a> were all called up and got a taste of the majors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this team,&#8221; Schaeffer said in a news release. &#8220;My focus remains on continuing to build a strong, unified culture based on accountability, hard work and trust.
