He had one assist in 11 games with Cleveland and had played with Columbus in training camp on a PTO. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Smith, 36, spent the 2024-25 season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/dallas-stars\/25\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/dallas-stars\/25\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Stars<\/a>, appearing in 32 games, scoring one goal with five assists. He did not suit up in any playoff games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A first-round pick (27th overall) by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/detroit-red-wings\/17\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/detroit-red-wings\/17\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> in 2007, Smith made his NHL debut on Nov. 17, 2011 against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/san-jose-sharks\/28\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/san-jose-sharks\/28\" target=\"_blank\">San Jose Sharks<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Mimico, Ont., native has skated in 726 career NHL games, scoring 39 goals with 144 points, split between the Red Wings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-york-rangers\/3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-york-rangers\/3\" target=\"_blank\">New York Rangers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/carolina-hurricanes\/12\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/carolina-hurricanes\/12\" target=\"_blank\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-jersey-devils\/1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-jersey-devils\/1\" target=\"_blank\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> and Stars. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed veteran defenceman Brendan Smith to a one-year, two-way contract on Monday.
