Eva Longoria<\/a>\u2019s life unfolded just as it was meant to.<\/p>\n

The Desperate Housewives alum\u2014who shares 7-year-old son Santiago<\/a> with husband Jos\u00e9 Bast\u00f3n\u2014recently explained why becoming a mom at age 43 was the right move for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have so much more wisdom and patience when you become a mother in your forties,\u201d she told The Times in an interview published Nov. 24<\/a>. \u201cIt was all about me for so long. Forty years of me was enough time, so I was really blessed to have my child later in life because I had travelled, I\u2019d done everything I needed to do for my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she put it, Santiago makes this era of her life extra special. \u201cNow everything I do is just icing on the cake,” she continued, “and I get to do that with my son.\u201d<\/p>\n

And while Eva, who celebrated her 50th birthday in March, conceded, \u201cI want to have my 20-year-old body with my 50-year-old mind,\u201d she\u2019s also made deliberate choices to ensure she can be a mom on the go for as long as she possibly can.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all aging,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s happening, so you have no choice but to embrace it. I just want to age well. I want to be able to move, hike, get up and down stairs. I\u2019m still carrying my son and he\u2019s 7.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eva also shared how it\u2019s the promise of time with Santiago that has her so discerning when it comes to taking on new projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family is my priority,\u201d the Only Murders in the Building star said. \u201cSo, if I\u2019m saying yes to something and it\u2019s taking time away from them, it\u2019s got to be something I\u2019m really going to enjoy and people I really want to work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thankfully, Eva\u2014who was previously married to Tony Parker and Tyler Christopher\u2014has the perfect partner in Jos\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m busy and my career is very important to me, but I\u2019m really fortunate that I met my match in that,\u201d she said of her husband of almost 10 years. \u201cHe\u2019s totally supportive of my dreams and my goals and what I want to get done.\u201d<\/p>\n
