{"id":307367,"date":"2025-11-25T08:56:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T08:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/307367\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T08:56:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T08:56:10","slug":"gold-coast-man-dies-after-alleged-one-punch-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/307367\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Coast man dies after alleged one-punch attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A 62-year-old man has died in hospital after an alleged one-punch attack on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Police said the 62-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were speaking to one another at the intersection of Scarborough and Railway streets, Southport at 11:30pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It is alleged the younger man, Jordan Desmond Charles Webber from Coombabah, punched the 62-year-old in the face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Police said the man fell to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Police were called to the CSi Club at Southport just after midnight and the older man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Detectives said the incident had been captured on CCTV and Mr Webber handed himself in when they arrived at the scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The 62-year-old died this morning after spending two days in an intensive care unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Webber was initially charged with one count of grievous bodily harm, but the charge has now been upgraded to one count of striking causing death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He is in police custody and will reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A 62-year-old man has died in hospital after an alleged one-punch attack on the Gold Coast.
