Lover of football, flirter with other sports.<\/p>\n<p>A Nigeria basketball official says they are &#8216;proud&#8217; of <a data-player-guid=\"8c14caa5-a9c7-3508-aca8-567930a6d9b7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/player\/_\/id\/4898384\/kiki-iriafen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kiki Iriafen<\/a>, after the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"39c302ad-d5df-e0d0-33e8-1cffebc5bc75\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/team\/_\/name\/wsh\/washington-mystics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Mystics<\/a> rookie was called up for the first time by Team USA, but &#8216;sad&#8217; that she will likely not be representing Nigeria internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Iriafen, who is of Nigerian origin, was one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/olympics\/basketball\/story\/_\/id\/47085664\/caitlin-clark-paige-bueckers-make-usa-senior-camp-debuts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">18 players named<\/a> by the USA Basketball Women&#8217;s National Team to participate in a training camp set for December 12-14 at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Her selection by USA Basketball means that Iriafen is unlikely to represent Nigeria, and an NBBF official, who preferred to comment anonymously, told ESPN that the federation had been keeping tabs on the forward, and were sad to miss out on her talents.<\/p>\n<p>They said: &#8220;We are proud of her for her accomplishments from college to the WNBA, and we have been monitoring her.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a little sad for us that she will not be representing Nigeria, but that was always a long shot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wish her nothing but the best with Team USA, but the door will remain open here for as long as possible for her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Mystics forward Kiki Iriafen was named to the 2025 WNBA All-Rookie team.\u00a0Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>While Iriafen may not be representing NIgeria internationally, she remains connected to her Nigerian culture.<\/p>\n<p>In early November, she was part of the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/thesource.com\/2025\/11\/14\/nigeria-claims-victory-at-5th-annual-battle-of-jollof-in-new-york-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Battle of Jollof<\/a> which took place in New York, decked out in Nigerian green and white colours to support the Nigeria team coached by <a data-player-guid=\"a35875ce-3ef4-61d5-9a20-483b82d82ed9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/player\/_\/id\/3904577\/arike-ogunbowale\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arike Ogunbowale<\/a> as they defeated the Ghana team 80-74 to claim jollof bragging rights for the next year.<\/p>\n<p>The forward will join nine other players who will make their senior national team camp debuts.
