Wallaga Lake residents say they are now being forced to negotiate traffic travelling at 80km\u2019s per hour if they want to cycle into Bermagui.<\/p>\n
The pathway they previously used adjacent to the beach was washed out by the East Coast Low back in June.<\/p>\n
NSW Crown Lands has ruled out rebuilding it as it passes through an ecologically sensitive area.<\/p>\n

Locals have now approached Bega Valley Shire Council twice to help improve the surface adjacent to the busy Wallaga Lake Road but have been rejected.<\/p>\n
David Monro from Bermagui Community Forum said first it was because there is no funding available.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen we said the community feels so strongly about this maybe we could do this together. Maybe if you\u2019ll tell us how much this will cost, we\u2019ll make an appeal to the community to raise the funds so work can be done to make it safe,\u201d Mr Monro said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey responded back there are no council resources available to even give you a quote,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Monro said this leaves a serious safety issue, especially with tourists who visit the area including many kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really like to think what the consequences could be.
