The Heat didn\u2019t miss a beat with 2025 All-Star guard Tyler Herro<\/a> back in their lineup for the first time this season on Monday, registering their fifth consecutive victory and their eighth win in the past 10 games to improve to 12-6 on the year. Herro, who was making his season debut following ankle surgery, scored a team-high 24 points and made a key basket to help clinch the win over Dallas in the game\u2019s final minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing that he can come back and have that kind of rhythm, and that\u2019s only going to get better,\u201d Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters, including ESPN\u2019s Tim MacMahon<\/a>, in his post-game media session. \u201cWhen you face better defenses, you can see why we need that skill. You need as much skill and firepower as possible in this league. And it was just exciting to have him back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Playing in the Heat\u2019s new uptempo offense for the first time, Herro needed a quarter to knock off some rust, but it didn\u2019t take long for him to get comfortable. As MacMahon notes, after missing his first four attempts from the floor, Herro knocked down 12 of his last 14 shots.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see it out there, man,\u201d Heat star Bam Adebayo<\/a> said when asked about Herro\u2019s fit in the new system. \u201cWe got a lot of guys that\u2019s hard to guard off the catch. As you see, it\u2019s a fun offense to be part of. It\u2019s not a lot of pick-and-rolls, but it\u2019s sharing the game. \u2026 Everyone feels involved, everyone gets a chance to be aggressive, and we\u2019re being successful off of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not an adjustment for him in terms of how we play,\u201d Spoelstra added. \u201cHe\u2019s going to fit right in. He\u2019s going to amplify everything we\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n

Miami currently leads the NBA in both pace (106.14 possessions per 48 minutes) and points per game (123.9).<\/p>\n

Herro admitted after Monday\u2019s win that he\u2019s \u201cstill got a long way to go\u201d before he feels like he\u2019s back to 100%, per Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald<\/a>. \u201cI still got to rehab, recover,\u201d Herro said. \u201cI easily could have probably waited another two weeks to come back, but I\u2019m healthy enough to be out there, and I want to be out there. So that was most important to me. I kind of circled this date probably three or four weeks ago. And then I was like, \u2018I\u2019m ready. Forget it, I\u2019m ready.\u2019 I took the last couple days when the team was on the road just to prepare my body for tonight, and it was a lot of fun to go out there and compete and ultimately win.\u201d
\nNorman Powell<\/a>, the Heat\u2019s leading scorer so far this season, was held out of Monday\u2019s game and underwent an MRI on his left groin injury. However, that MRI showed only a \u201cmild\u201d strain and Spoelstra said the team\u2019s level of concern \u201cis not super high,\u201d according to Chiang (Twitter<\/a> links<\/a>). Initially considered day-to-day, Powell is expected to return to action for Miami on Wednesday vs. Milwaukee, tweets<\/a> Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press.
\nKel\u2019el Ware<\/a>, who has averaged 15.9 points and 15.1 rebounds per game in his past eight outings, is earning praise from teammates and coaches alike for his recent play, according to Chiang<\/a>. Before Ware could respond to a reporter\u2019s question on Sunday about whether he\u2019s playing the best basketball of his career, Powell interrupted to answer for him: \u201cNo. More to come. A lot more potential, man. Stock rising.\u201d
\nSpoelstra, who challenged Ware in both the Summer League<\/a> and preseason<\/a> to do more to consistently impact winning, praised the second-year big man for being \u201cmuch more intentional\u201d and \u201cstacking up good day after good day,\u201d as Chiang relays. \u201cHe\u2019s playing meaningful minutes,\u201d Spoelstra said. \u201cHe understands the responsibility to play well. And he\u2019s recognizing if it doesn\u2019t go well, what he needs to correct.
