CBA has poached a data and analytics executive from Lloyds Banking Group in the UK to become its first chief AI officer, starting early 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Ranil\u00a0Boteju, who is Lloyds’ group chief data and analytics officer of four years, will join CBA’s technology leadership team, and report to the group CTO Rodrigo Castillo.<\/p>\n
\u201cCBA is focused on bringing together world-class talent, technology and partnerships that help us deliver on our strategy of building tomorrow\u2019s bank today,\u201d\u00a0CBA CEO Matt Comyn said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we scale to deliver even greater value from AI for our customers and our people, Ranil\u2019s global leadership in harnessing AI and data will be instrumental.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The bank said the hiring of Boteju “reflects our continued focus on advancing responsible and customer-focused AI.”<\/p>\n
In the interim,\u00a0iTnews\u00a0understands that the CBA’s general manager of AI and advanced analytics Richard Nesbitt is the acting chief AI officer.<\/p>\n
AI responsibilities at the CBA previously fell to the\u00a0group’s chief data and analytics officer, iTnews\u00a0understands.<\/p>\n
The group’s last chief data and analytics officer, Andrew McMullan, left for Westpac in September<\/a>.<\/p>\n The chief AI officer announcement comes just days after CBA revealed its group CIO Gavin Munroe will\u00a0leave the company<\/a>\u00a0in late December.<\/p>\n CIO responsibilities now fall to Castillo and retail banking CIO Victoria Ledda.\u00a0<\/p>\n CBA has\u00a0been busy deploying AI,\u00a0announcing plans<\/a>\u00a0earlier this year to use the technology across all of its software delivery.\u00a0<\/p>\n In April, CBA said it had\u00a0been using AI<\/a>\u00a0as part of its \u2018big room planning\u2019 for coordinating software delivery activities and goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
