David Letterman has called CBS \u201cgutless\u201d for cancelling Stephen Colbert\u2019s \u2018The Late Show,\u2019 criticizing the network\u2019s ties to the Trump-approved Skydance merger.<\/p>\n

The former “Late Show” host, 78, is defending Meyers after President Donald Trump<\/a> called for the host of NBC’s “Late Night” to lose his job<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a video on his YouTube channel uploaded Nov. 25<\/a>, Letterman gave a shout out “to our friend” Meyers, noting that “the president of the United States now wants to fire” him.<\/p>\n

“I thought, ‘This is just delightful,'” Letterman said. “How do you think that’s gonna go? Anyway, I’ve never been more proud of Seth Meyers.”<\/p>\n

Letterman, who previously hosted “Late Night” on NBC, added that Meyers “does a magical job” on the show but jokingly warned him to watch his back. “Just remember, Seth: Things happen,” he quipped.<\/p>\n

The “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” host went on to slam Trump for calling a reporter “piggy” on Air Force One<\/a> after he was asked a question about late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Just a wonder of idiocy. It’s just fantastic. It knows no bounds,” Letterman said. “It’s never-ending. He’s our dictator. He’s not going anywhere.”<\/p>\n

The former late-night host added that Trump’s behavior as president is “like 18 times the worst behavior one has witnessed, ever, anywhere. It’s worse. Think of the worst thing that you’ve ever seen humans accomplish. This is so much worse.”<\/p>\n

In a Truth Social post on Nov. 15<\/a>, Trump wrote that Meyers “is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome” and “was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage,” adding that he has “no talent” and that “NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!” Trump previously called for Meyers’ firing in the wake of Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, and after CBS canceled Stephen Colbert’s show<\/a> earlier this year, the president complained about<\/a> why Meyers was still on the air.<\/p>\n

But notably, Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, shared Trump’s latest post<\/a> about how NBC should fire Meyers on his X account. Carr previously faced criticism after he appeared to threaten ABC into suspending Kimmel over comments<\/a> about Charlie Kirk’s killing.<\/p>\n

While addressing Trump’s post on his show, Meyers said he likes to “handle these situations the way you handle an angry driver who honks and flips you off on the highway: You just ignore them.”<\/p>\n

Letterman, who left CBS’ “Late Show” in 2015 and now hosts the Netflix interview series “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” has frequently spoken out to criticize Trump.<\/p>\n

In September, the comedian slammed<\/a> Trump’s “authoritarian” and “criminal” administration and mocked him for taking such an interest in late-night comedy. “The institution of the president of the United States ought to be bigger than a guy doing a talk show,” he said at The Atlantic Festival.<\/p>\n
