All the broadcasters have bet big on their areas of expertise \u2013 aka ratings winners \u2013 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n4gl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seven<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n2r2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nine<\/a> focusing on sport, game shows and reality, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n7pq\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ten<\/a> is leaning further into family entertainment. As always, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5ngy9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ABC<\/a> is doing the heavy lifting in terms of scripted programs, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mrr3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SBS<\/a> has the biggest sporting drawcard of them all: the FIFA World Cup. So what\u2019s new, what\u2019s coming back and what\u2019s not? Here are some of the highlights.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lila McGuire plays Evonne Goolagong in the highly anticipated three-part biopic.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/b09c84e09dbb3a5af889c552495b04a52626e880.jpeg\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lila McGuire plays Evonne Goolagong in the highly anticipated three-part biopic.<\/p>\n<p>NEW DRAMA<\/p>\n<p>Reckless (SBS\/NITV): Now streaming, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5nfx2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cFreo meets Fargo\u201d<\/a> crime caper stars Tasma Walton and Hunter Page-Lochard as siblings who accidentally run over an old man. Hijinks ensue.<\/p>\n<p>The Chaplain (SBS): A workplace drama set at Melbourne International Airport. In the middle of it all is chaplain Tobias Wallace, who has an unusual approach to solving the day-to-day crises in the terminals.<\/p>\n<p>Goolagong (ABC): Coming early next year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5malq\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three-part series<\/a> tells the story of the rise of Australian tennis legend Evonne Goolagong Cawley (played by Lila McGuire) from the dirt courts of Barellan to the green grass of Wimbledon\u2019s Centre Court.<\/p>\n<p>Dustfall (ABC): Fresh from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5li9q\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Newsreader<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mivm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Territory<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5l64w\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Torv<\/a> plays a detective returning to her hometown to investigate a series of drink-spiking assaults.<\/p>\n<p>Loading<\/p>\n<p>Treasure and Dirt (ABC): Adapted from Chris Hammer\u2019s book of the same name, this crime drama stars Michael Dorman and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5lenv\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liv Hewson<\/a> as detective and local cop investigating the beheading death of a local miner in a dying opal town that is starting to unravel.<\/p>\n<p>Shakedown (ABC): A four-part drama based on the government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mv8r\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">robo-debt scandal<\/a>, which saw more than half a million people falsely accused of welfare fraud.<\/p>\n<p>RETURNING: Home and Away (Seven)<\/p>\n<p>STATUS UNKNOWN: RFDS (Seven)<\/p>\n<p>CANCELLED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mec4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neighbours<\/a> (Ten)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mick Molloy and Glenn Robbins star in a yet-to-be-named comedy show premiering on Seven next year.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/88717040611027e046851164ddb6bf3223b0836a.jpeg\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mick Molloy and Glenn Robbins star in a yet-to-be-named comedy show premiering on Seven next year.<\/p>\n<p>NEW COMEDY<\/p>\n<p>Mick Molloy (Seven): The yet-to-be-named show stars Molloy and Glenn Robbins. No real details have been released, only that it will include \u201cfunny friends\u201d as guests.<\/p>\n<p>Loading<\/p>\n<p>Bad Company (ABC): Creator and writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mrwg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anne Edmonds<\/a> stars as Margie, the volatile artistic director of a crumbling theatre company. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mlys\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kitty Flanagan<\/a> plays the strait-laced corporate executive brought in to clean up the mess.<\/p>\n<p>Dog Park (ABC): Celia Pacquola plays Samantha, an eternal optimist, who meets the down-and-out Roland, played by Leon Ford, at the dog park. Pitched as a feel-good story centred on community, with added dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Ground Up (ABC): A comedy about the troubled formation of Tasmania\u2019s first AFL team, it stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n22r\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Pang<\/a> as an AFL administrator sent in to win over the locals. Think The Games and Utopia.<\/p>\n<p>Urzila (ABC): Already a familiar face on our screens, comedian Urzila Carlson writes and stars in this hybrid concept, which is a mix of Carlson\u2019s stand-up and sketch comedy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Rebecca Gibney is the new host of Millionaire Hot Seat on Ten.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0b38aa093df52a158cffaaeed3e3e6c78720a2cf.jpeg\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Gibney is the new host of Millionaire Hot Seat on Ten.Credit: Dominic Lorrimer<\/p>\n<p>NEW GAME SHOWS<\/p>\n<p>Millionaire Hot Seat (Ten): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5me84\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rebecca Gibney<\/a> is hosting this half-hour version of the quiz show, which originally aired on Nine as a spin-off of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n5z4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UK\u2019s Celebrity Traitors<\/a> was a viral hit for Ten and they\u2019ll be hoping viewers stick around for the local version.<\/p>\n<p>Loading<\/p>\n<p>Australian Survivor: Redemption (Ten): The show is the same, but the host has been changed, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5mnxn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Genat<\/a> \u2013 aka the Golden God \u2013 now at the helm. Ten is hoping so.<\/p>\n<p>My Reno Rules (Seven): Hosted by Dr Chris Brown, with financial fairy godfather <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n5iy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adrian Portelli<\/a> \u2013 the serial Block bidder and buyer \u2013 this series sees two homes in Melbourne\u2019s Bulleen given a multimillion-dollar renovation and then given away to two viewers in the grand finale.<\/p>\n<p>SAS: Australia v England (Seven): Seven Australian celebrities, including Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm and Ryan Moloney, aka Toadie from Neighbours, compete against seven UK celebrities in the Moroccan desert. Ant Middleton is not returning to host.<\/p>\n<p>Shark! (Nine): Six celebrities, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5n38z\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retired Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus<\/a> and The Block host Scott Cam, are taken to the Bahamas to participate in \u201cescalating\u201d challenges with sharks, including an open-water swim. Ally Langdon and James Bracey will lead the broadcast from Livigno, with assistance from Leila McKinnon and Todd Woodbridge.<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow Commonwealth Games (Seven): Running from July 23 to August 2, the Games originally meant for regional Victoria before the Andrews government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5dp9e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called the whole thing off<\/a> will broadcast across Seven and 7Plus.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA World Cup (SBS): All 104 games from the tournament in Canada, the United States and Mexico will be screened from the June 11 kick-off, with 48 nations competing.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d love to hear your thoughts about next year\u2019s free-to-air line-ups.
