New to Kayo? <a href=\"https:\/\/kayosports.com.au?pg=f1&amp;extcamp=fsaeditoriallinkmotorsport-edt-fsp-lnk-awr-grc-mtr-kyo&amp;channel=fsa&amp;campaign=fsacontra&amp;voucher=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Join now and get your first month for just $1.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Newey committed his long-term future to Aston Martin in September 2024 after his departure from Red Bull sparked a bidding war for his services.<\/p>\n<p>But despite being widely considered the greatest technical mastermind of his generation, Newey is reported to have clashed with current Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell over the direction of the team and its car design during a disappointing season.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com.au\/motorsport\/formula-one\/f1-2025-christian-horner-in-line-for-shock-return-as-aston-martin-team-principal-details-red-bull\/news-story\/9256088792dead7aadadeb693bcfa57c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">speculation linked former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner with the Silverstone-based team<\/a>, Aston Martin announced a major reshuffle.<\/p>\n<p>According to BBC Sport, Horner will not be given a role at Aston Martin.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"i-amphtml-fill-content i-amphtml-replaced-content\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763806450_225_poster-fallback.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Newey\u2019s appointment caught the F1 world by surprise on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-race.com\/formula-1\/our-verdict-adrian-newey-aston-martin-f1-team-principal-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The Race\u2019s <\/a>Jack Benyon described the move as \u201cunfathomable\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSurely (Aston Martin) needs a bit of stability at the top level?\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe Newey provides that. But at the risk of offending a man I admire so much for his accomplishments, he is 66 years old &#8211; 67 when next season starts &#8211; and has never held this role before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newey, 66, will take charge of trackside operations next season, while Cowell has been given a new role as chief strategy officer to focus on the team\u2019s engine partnership with Honda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last nine months, I have seen great individual talent within our team,\u201d said Newey, who joined Aston Martin as managing technical partner in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to taking on this additional role as we put ourselves in the best possible position to compete in 2026.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Adrian Newey at a press conference. (Photo by Andrew Ferraro\/Getty Images for Aston Martin)Source: Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Newey has played a significant role in 13 drivers\u2019 world championships and a dozen constructors\u2019 titles with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull but has never previously held the role of team principal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth of these changes will ensure the team is best placed to play to their collective strengths,\u201d said Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll.<\/p>\n<p>Aston Martin are currently eighth in the constructors\u2019 standings with two races to go this season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Formula One technical guru Adrian Newey will become Aston Martin\u2019s team principal in 2026.
