A HARD crash for soon-to-be Supercars graduate Jackson Walls<\/a> has caused a lengthy red flag period during opening Dunlop Super2 Series practice at the bp Adelaide Grand Final.<\/p>\n

Walls was on his first representative flying lap nine minutes into the 40-minute session when a suspected mechanical failure pitched him heavily into the wall on the approach to the final corner.<\/p>\n

The #11 Triple Eight Holden hit the concrete barriers past the end of the tyre wall on the exit of the penultimate kink, the car eventually coming to rest on the access road that the Super2 field uses to drive from its paddock onto the circuit.<\/p>\n

Walls, who entered the Super2 finale as the top rookie in points and will graduate to the \u2018main game\u2019 next year in Triple Eight\u2019s new third Mustang<\/a>, was subsequently taken to the circuit\u2019s medical centre for checks.<\/p>\n

The session was halted for over 10 minutes while the concrete wall was moved back into place before it resumed.<\/p>\n

Tickford\u2019s Nash Morris<\/a> led teammate Lochie Dalton<\/a>, Brad Jones Racing\u2019s Brad Vaughan<\/a> and points leader Rylan Gray<\/a> at the time of the stoppage, the second-generation racer leaving the benchmark at 1m21.9173s.<\/p>\n

By the time the chequered flag waved, almost a full second had been sliced off that time.<\/p>\n

Gray headed the order with a 1m20.9265s ahead of teammate Reuben Goodall<\/a> by just 0.0970s, with Jordyn Sinni<\/a>, Cameron McLeod<\/a>, Vaughan, Ben Gomersall<\/a>, Dalton, Jobe Stewart<\/a>, Matt Hillyer<\/a> and reigning champion Zach Bates<\/a> completing the top 10.<\/p>\n

Morris improved his best by some three tenths but wound up 12th.<\/p>\n

NASCAR racer Jesse Love enjoyed a solid opening hitout in Super2, the newly-crowned Xfinity Series champion ending the session 22nd but just 2.47s shy of the fastest time.<\/p>\n

The Super2 field heads out for Practice 2 at 2pm local time \/ 2:30pm AEDT.<\/p>\n
