Conan O\u2019Brien<\/a> is enlisted to be the \u201cDenny Lane\u201d to podcast co-host Tom Holland\u2019s \u201cPaul McCartney\u201d in a trailer for The Rest Is History\u2018s upcoming special on the Beatles.<\/p>\n Announced on Friday \u2014 not coincidentally, as the revamped The Beatles Anthology series unspools on Disney+ \u2014 The Rest Is History\u2018s two-part special promises a close look at a rock band that was \u201ca complete break from everything that came before,\u201d as Fab Four superfan O\u2019Brien puts in in the press release.<\/p>\n \u201cThey were singer-songwriters who wrote their own music, and in so many ways they broke the mold,\u201d O\u2019Brien posits. \u201cMost groups at the time had a clear frontman \u2014 Dion and the Belmonts, for example \u2014 and there was real pressure on them to follow that model. For a moment they were even \u2018Johnny and the Moondogs.\u2019 But they always knew they were a group.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cThe Beatles single-handedly brought us from black-and-white to color,\u201d O\u2019Brien remarks in the trailer below, which samples \u201cCome Together\u201d and its funky riffs. \u201cThe volume of work they have is incredible\u2026 They remain as relevant today as they were in 1964.\u201d<\/p>\n Holland, an English novelist who usually co-hosts The Rest Is History with historian Dominic Sandbrook, opines that the Beatles are \u201chistorically significant because they act as lightning rods for everything that made the 1960s such a revolutionary decade. <\/p>\n \u201cIn many ways, we in the 21st century are still living in the aftermath of the \u201960s \u2014 just as people in the 16th century lived in the wake of the 1520s,\u201d he adds. \u201cThe cultural and ethical transformation is on that scale, and the Beatles were not only symbols of it, but active drivers of it.\u201d <\/p>\n Late-night TV get O\u2019Brien currently hosts the HBO Max travel show Conan O\u2019Brien Must Go, which with its coming season is heading to India after a years-long wait<\/a> on a filming permit.<\/p>\n
