Especially given Santos isn\u2019t only the reigning Ring Trainer of the Year, but coach to a large crew of champions which, past and present, includes the likes of Mario Barrios, Erislandy Lara, Carlos Adames, Joel Casamayor, Robert Guerrero and David Morrell Jnr.<\/p>\n
And now, the trainer has agreed to work into the future with Peters.<\/p>\n
A fighter who, most immediately, is looking to continue his own undefeated run in Wednesday night\u2019s Fox Sports boxing showcase in Brisbane. <\/p>\n
Still switching between the amateurs and professionals, Peters will throw down against experienced New Zealander Marcus Heywood on an exciting fight card topped by the younger brother of New Zealand heavyweight star Joseph Parker.<\/p>\n
Then in September, the 22-year-old Adelaide product will look to become the first Australian amateur to win gold at the worlds, before then switching back and having one, maybe two more pro fights before the year is out.<\/p>\n
In preparation for all this, the youngster flew into Las Vegas earlier this month for Tim Tszyu\u2019s world title fight week.<\/p>\n

(Photo by Emily Barker\/Getty Images)Source: Getty ImagesWBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios (L) poseswith his head coach Bob Santos.Source: AFP<\/p>\n On the same card, Santos also cornered his WBC welterweight champ Barrios against megastar Manny Pacquiao. <\/p>\n In fight week, Peters spent time at the gym of Santos, sparring several fighters including Garcia \u2013 a US national champion who already boasts 18 fights inside the likes of T-Mobile Arena and the MGM Grand. <\/p>\n \u201cI basically jumped straight off the plane and into 12 rounds of sparring,\u201d Peters revealed to Fox Sports Australia this week.<\/p>\n \u201cI did eight rounds first up with Garcia then four rounds with another fella.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd all the coaches there, they freaked out with how I went.<\/p>\n \u201cI was throwing with a lot of power, speed, putting the pressure on them.<\/p>\n \u201cBob Santos actually said \u2018wow, you don\u2019t stop punching\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cIt gave me a really good idea of where I\u2019m at.\u201d<\/p>\n Better, Peters earned an invitation to go back.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s the plan, yeah,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n \u201cBob Santos has trained the best so it\u2019s great to spend time there.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously everyone was flat out with fight week so next time, it will be for a proper camp, and a lot more rounds.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to really get a feel for things, especially now that I\u2019ve been there and know what to expect.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere, Peters said that while Tszyu\u2019s title bout against Sebastian Fundora didn\u2019t go as planned, the opportunity to be inside MGM Grand Garden Arena allowed him to envision everything coming.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was unreal,\u201d he said of the fight night experience.<\/p>\n \u201cJust sitting there and thinking \u2018this can be me one day\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was awesome to be inside an arena that\u2019s hosted the likes of Pacquiao, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather \u2026 (laughs) even Holyfield\u2019s ear.<\/p>\n \u201cI felt like \u2018yeah, I can get here, be among the best in the world\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cI just need to stay focused, train hard and I\u2019ll show people what I\u2019m made of.\u201d<\/p>\n CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA – JUNE 25: Callum Peters punches Luca Lanigan during their middleweight bout at Cairns Convention Centre on June 25, 2025 in Cairns, Australia. (Photo by Emily Barker\/Getty Images for No Limit Boxing)Source: Getty Images<\/p>\n Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Queensland cruiserweight Floyd Masson is looking to catapult into world title contention against New Zealander John Parker \u2013 the younger brother of former heavyweight world champion Joseph.<\/p>\n At 33, Masson is gunning for a shot at gold in a division where Australia\u2019s Jai Opetaia boasts the IBF and Ring crowns.<\/p>\n Then in the co-main, Peters will be looking to continue his own hyped rise.<\/p>\n Asked about his decision to fight one more time professionally before worlds, and only weeks after his first round finish of Cairns product Luca Lanigan, he grinned: \u201cI\u2019ve got the time, so I said \u2018let\u2019s do it\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m also hoping to get another two pro fights in before this year is out.<\/p>\n \u201cDefinitely December, but I\u2019d like one before that, too.<\/p>\n \u201c(Laughs) I\u2019ve asked No Limit to call them up and say \u2018are you down to fight Callum Peters?\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd if not, well, good luck fighting me later.
