It was the co-captains who set the tempo with Bella Nasser’s pilfer penalty providing the turnover for Teagan Levi to strike, followed by Madison Ashby setting up Faith Nathan for a 12-7 lead.<\/p>\n
Maddison Levi got in on the action in the second half with a double as the Aussies fended off some quality fightback from Japan.<\/p>\n
Nasser sealed the win with three minutes left, running 90 metres for a 14-point swing after the Japanese incredibly dropped the ball over the line untouched 30 seconds earlier.<\/p>\n

Australia have impressed with a 14-7 win over last year’s runner-ups, Spain.<\/p>\n
It was a wild contest that saw the Aussies respond to an early Spanish try via returning star Dietrich Roache and young gun Wallace Charlie.<\/p>\n
There were three disallowed tries in the second half, with Maurice Longbottom pulling off an excellent try-saver, while a pair of forward passes denied five points for the Australians.<\/p>\n
Rookie Ethan McFarland proved the hero, coming up with the clutch ankle tap to stop a last-minute Spain attack to level the scores and win the game.<\/p>\n
