{"id":316427,"date":"2025-11-29T12:22:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T12:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/316427\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T12:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T12:22:08","slug":"k-pop-event-mama-awards-to-proceed-with-restrained-production-after-hong-kong-fire-tragedy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/316427\/","title":{"rendered":"K-pop event MAMA Awards to proceed \u2018with restrained production\u2019 after Hong Kong fire tragedy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Amid calls from some netizens for its cancellation, the organiser of MAMA\u00a0Awards\u00a02025 has said that the star-studded K-pop music awards ceremony to be held at Hong Kong\u2019s Kai Tak Stadium on Nov 28 and 29 will go ahead as scheduled. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A blaze broke out in the Wang Fuk Court high-rise apartment complex in Hong Kong\u2019s suburban Tai Po district on Nov 26, killing at least 128 people and leaving about 200 still missing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cOur hearts go out to all those affected by this devastating event,\u201d the organiser said in a press statement on the evening of Nov 27. \u201cWe offer our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and our thoughts are with those injured.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The organiser said it hoped to provide comfort and support during this difficult time and believed in the healing and unifying power of music. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cOur stage and performances are being carefully and thoughtfully prepared with restrained production, so that even amid grief, they may offer small moments of courage and comfort,\u201d it said. \u201cAs a mark of respect, we will observe a moment of silence to honour the victims and are committed to providing donations in support of the victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Hong Kong boy band Mirror, who were originally scheduled to make their MAMA Awards debut on Nov 28, announced through their agency MakerVille late on Nov 27 that they would not take part in the ceremony. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Day 1 was slated to showcase performances by South Korean acts such as Enhypen, Babymonster, I-dle, IVE, NCT Wish and Super Junior, while G-Dragon, Stray Kids, Aespa, Tomorrow x Together, Zerobaseone and Riize take the stage on Day 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In addition, actor Park Bo-gum is to host the music festival\u2019s first day, while actress Kim Hye-soo presides over the second day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As part of Netflix\u2019s KPop Demon Hunters Wonder Stage collaboration, K-pop artistes are set to bring the animated film\u2019s climactic battle between Huntrix and Saja Boys from screen to stage. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Babymonster members Pharita, Ahyeon and Rora will step into the roles of the fictional girl group, while BoyNextDoor\u2019s Leehan, Riize\u2019s Wonbin, TWS\u2019 Shinyu and Zerobaseone\u2019s Park Gun-wook and Han Yu-jin play the rival boy band. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Meanwhile, South Korean entertainment companies and K-pop artistes have made donations to support rescue efforts and victims of the Hong Kong fire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SM Entertainment said on its official Weibo account on Nov 27 that it would donate HK$1 million (S$166,000) to the Hong Kong Red Cross.
