Mitch Marsh<\/a> has been locked in for a return to red-ball cricket but where he bats is up in the air.<\/p>\n

Marsh hasn’t played in the longer format since he was dropped from the Test side after Boxing Day against India last year.<\/p>\n

The all-rounder will now feature for Western Australia against Victoria in round six of the Sheffield Shield<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Marsh has been constantly floated as an option for Australia at the top of the order, with chairman of selectors George Bailey suggesting he could play a role later in The Ashes.<\/p>\n

As for Western Australia, coach Adam Voges wasn’t giving much away.<\/p>\n

“Where does he fit into our team? He fits in, it’s just a matter of where,” he told reporters at Perth airport on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“(Sam) Whiteman and (Cameron) Bancroft’s been a solid opening combination for us for a long period of time so whether we want to break that up or not, we’ll just work through (that).”<\/p>\n

Voges himself has made headlines recently after it was revealed by The Age<\/a> that he was quitting his role at season’s end to coach on the T20 circuit.<\/p>\n

The former Australian batter has won multiple Sheffield Shield titles and one-day cups as coach of WA.<\/p>\n

Voges explained his decision on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“This is a step to broaden my horizons and experience new environments and work with different people,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Where that ultimately takes me, I’m not sure.
