A local police officer was injured during a dramatic arrest following pursuit of stolen Toyota across the Northern Beaches today, 30 November.<\/p>\n

A routine police patrol turned into a dramatic chase across Dee Why, Collaroy and Narrabeen this morning, ending with an alleged car thief making a desperate bid to escape by plunging into water at Narrabeen.<\/p>\n

The incident began around 10.50am when officers on patrol on the North Shore spotted a white Toyota Corolla \u2013 reported stolen \u2013 cruising along Brook Street in Naremburn.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n \n<\/p>\n

When police signalled the driver to pull over, the vehicle allegedly sped off, sparking a pursuit through the suburban streets. However, concerns for public safety forced officers to terminate the chase, allowing the vehicle to disappear from sight.<\/p>\n

But the alleged offender\u2019s freedom was short-lived.<\/p>\n

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command soon located the Toyota on Pittwater Road in Narrabeen. As police moved in, the driver \u2013 a man believed to be in his 20s \u2013 bolted from the vehicle and made a stunning dash into nearby water.<\/p>\n

What followed was a foot pursuit that saw officers give chase, culminating in the man\u2019s arrest.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The dramatic takedown came at a cost, however, with one raptor officer sustaining a suspected dislocated shoulder during the struggle. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the officer at the scene.<\/p>\n

The arrested man was transported to Manly Police Station, where he remains in custody as investigations continue.<\/p>\n
