England has its first win this summer against an Australian opponent after the England Lions’ success against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra.<\/p>\n

James Rew was the star of the show for the visitors, finishing with 92 not out for as they chased down 308 in the two-day pink ball match.<\/p>\n

Sam Konstas<\/a> was the big name playing for the PM’s XI and cruelly missed out on a rare wicket thanks to a dropped catch.<\/p>\n

England was 2-252 in the 55th over when Konstas came on to bowl, which brought a loud cheer from the Manuka Oval crowd.<\/p>\n

His first off-spinner was a shocker, a rank full toss to Asa Tribe, who hit a four.<\/p>\n

“A genuine gift to start with,” Bryce McGain said on Fox Cricket. <\/p>\n

Konstas then tightened up his bowling and on his fifth delivery, bowling around the wicket, forced a cut shot from Tribe.<\/p>\n

Tribe nicked the ball to wicketkeeper Joel Curtis who couldn’t grab it cleanly. Konstas finished 0-6 and wasn’t given another bowl.<\/p>\n

On day one, the PM’s XI declared at 8-308 with Konstas (36), Campbell Kellaway (82), Nathan McSweeney (63) and Oliver Peake (54) top scoring.<\/p>\n

For England, Emilio Gay retired hurt on 56 while Tribe finished 53 not out. Tom Haines scored 77 at the top of the order while Jacob Bethell was underwhelming, nicking behind for 16 off Campbell Thompson. The final result was an eight-wicket win.<\/p>\n

Bethell, Matthew Potts and Josh Tongue were the three English players released by the Ashes squad to play.<\/p>\n
