Corey Taylor\u2019s son Griffin has looked back on the first time he saw his dad in his Slipknot<\/a> mask.<\/p>\n

Talking exclusively to Metal Hammer, the junior Taylor \u2013 who now fronts his own nu metal<\/a> band, Vended<\/a> \u2013 says that he was very young the first time he saw Corey in his iconic mask, remembering that he looked like \u201cpart goldfish, part potato\u201d.<\/p>\n

He admits it took him a moment to realise that the person he was looking at was in fact his own dad.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually don\u2019t really remember it, but, so I\u2019m told, I was a baby, or a toddler, and my babysitter took me over while they were getting ready to go onstage,\u201d says Griffin.<\/p>\n

He adds: \u201cI got handed to him \u2013 this was when it was the face stitch mask era [referring to how Corey looked around the time of Slipknot\u2019s 2004 album, Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses] \u2013 and I was obviously taken aback, very curious, like, \u2018Who the fuck is this guy?\u2019 Then he started talking, like, \u2018Hey buddy,\u2019 and I just started feeling his mask and was fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin, Corey\u2019s second child, was born in 2002 to the Slipknot singer and his then-fianc\u00e9e, Scarlett. He founded Vended in 2018, starting the band with a fellow son of a Slipknot member: Simon Crahan, whose dad is \u2019Knot percussionist and co-founder Shawn \u201cClown\u201d Crahan. Vended have supported Slipknot on multiple occasions and they self-released their self-titled debut album in 2024.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Corey spoke to Hammer about his thoughts on his son starting a band of his own<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dad in me is constantly worried about him,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s gonna be 21 this year, and I\u2019m still, like, \u2018Oh god\u2026\u2019 At the same time, I have to let him do his own thing, and I love what he\u2019s doing \u2013 nobody is more proud than I am. Have I tried to give him advice? Sure, but he\u2019s got that Taylor gene where you don\u2019t learn anything unless you\u2019ve had the shit kicked out of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vended will hit the European festival circuit in 2026, with performances at the likes of Bloodstock Open Air in the UK, Wacken in Germany and Rockstadt in Romania booked.
