{"id":324124,"date":"2025-12-03T03:20:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T03:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/324124\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T03:20:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T03:20:30","slug":"nrl-and-liquor-gaming-nsw-monitoring-club-after-board-members-sacked-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/324124\/","title":{"rendered":"NRL and Liquor &#038; Gaming NSW monitoring club after board members sacked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The state\u2019s liquor and gaming watchdog has put the majority owners of Wests Tigers on notice following the latest boardroom dramas engulfing the club.<\/p>\n<p>The Holman Barnes Group, the Tigers\u2019 90 per cent shareholder, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brisbanetimes.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p5njx6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sacked four independent Wests Tigers directors<\/a> including chairman Barry O\u2019Farrell, a move that has clouded the future of chief executive Shane Richardson.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Wests Tigers players.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/fb77c5234bc8357f0fdef8811329d249a1d643f8.jpeg\" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wests Tigers players.Credit: Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The developments have piqued the interest of Liquor &amp; Gaming NSW, the body that sacked the Parramatta Leagues Club board in 2016 for ceasing to become an effective governing body. They were the same directors who had sat on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/parramatta-eels-board-sacked-administrator-max-donnelly-appointed-20160719-gq94cz.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Parramatta Eels club board when the club was embroiled in a salary cap scandal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiquor &amp; Gaming NSW is not currently investigating any matters involving Western Suburbs Leagues Club or the Holman Barnes Group,\u201d said a spokesperson for Liquor &amp; Gaming NSW.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we are monitoring these latest developments involving the board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegistered clubs must operate with the highest standards of integrity in the interests of their members as required under the Registered Clubs Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Only 24 hours earlier, Inner West Council mayor Darcy Byrne, who was pivotal in securing state and federal funding for Leichhardt Oval upgrades, called for Liquor and Gaming NSW to \u201cinvestigate and intervene\u201d in the club\u2019s administrative issues.<\/p>\n<p>Pointing to the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority\u2019s previous investigation of disharmony and board directors being dismissed, Byrne said: \u201cIf this doesn\u2019t demonstrate that there is a problem with governance in that organisation, then nothing will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dramas come at a time when the Tigers are attempting to convince star players Jarome Luai and Jahream Bula to commit to the club long term.
