1. Astros 40-man roster move incoming:<\/p>\n
The Astros are reportedly signing right-hander Ryan Weiss<\/a> to a major league deal<\/a>, bringing him over from the Korea Baseball Organization. The Astros have a full 40-man roster, so they\u2019ll need to make a move in order to accommodate their new signing. The most common way to accomplish that is simply by designating a player for assignment, but it\u2019s also possible Houston could look to work out a trade that clears 40-man roster space instead. That could be a minor trade of a low-level player on the 40-man, but a bigger deal is also possible given that Houston is reportedly receiving<\/a> interest<\/a> in outfielders Jake Meyers and Jesus Sanchez<\/a> on the trade market.<\/p>\n 2. Fairbanks next to move?<\/p>\n Former Rays right-hander Pete Fairbanks<\/a> was a somewhat unexpected addition to this year\u2019s free agent market after the Rays declined their $11MM club option on his services for the 2026 season. He\u2019s garnered plenty of interest in the weeks since then, with the Tigers<\/a>, Marlins<\/a>, and Blue Jays<\/a> among a number of teams known to be involved in his market on at least some level. The relief market has gotten moving faster than the rest of this winter\u2019s free agent class, with names such as Raisel Iglesias<\/a>, Devin Williams<\/a>, Ryan Helsley<\/a> and Phil Maton having already come off the board on notable contracts. Could Fairbanks be the next domino to fall?<\/p>\n 3. What\u2019s next for the Jays?<\/p>\n The Blue Jays reportedly reached an agreement with right-hander Cody Ponce<\/a> yesterday, and in doing so added a second starter to a rotation that already brought in Dylan Cease<\/a> earlier this winter. With Kevin Gausman<\/a>, Shane Bieber<\/a>, and Jose Berrios<\/a> already in place from last year plus top prospect Trey Yesavage<\/a> and depth options like Eric Lauer<\/a>, Yariel Rodriguez<\/a>, and Bowden Francis<\/a>, the addition of Ponce creates a glut of rotation options.
