For Free and confidential support call 1800 858 858 or visit gamblinghelponline.org.au.<\/p>\n<p>Seven 2021 flag-winning Demons \u2014 Gawn, Charlie Spargo, Trent Rivers, Jake Lever, Steven May, Tom McDonald and Christian Salem \u2014 gave evidence at Melbourne Magistrates\u2019 Court on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old Nixon acted as his own defence counsel and pleaded not guilty to four charges. <\/p>\n<p>Police had accused him of knowingly selling footballs with forged players\u2019 signatures to oblivious Melbourne fans after the club\u2019s premiership triumph in Perth four years ago. <\/p>\n<p>Addressing the court, Gawn said the signatures on the footies in question did not resemble his signature. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t look like how I normally do it, but it could be a rushed one,\u201d he observed of one of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like none of my previous ones. It\u2019s a 95 per cent chance it\u2019s not my signature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s turned up in unbelievable nick!&#8221; | 02:25<\/p>\n<p>Nixon was convicted and fined $4,500, and he will also have to refund the three victims $595. <\/p>\n<p>But as he left court on Tuesday, Nixon ensured he had the final say in the matter, claiming he wasn\u2019t the one who should have been punished. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the outcome for everyone was pretty good, I\u2019ll leave it at that,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m the one who got dudded. I\u2019m the one who paid $18,000 for forged footballs, yet they find me guilty. What a load of s***.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said: \u201cPlayers have told me they are legitimate.
