They should do so again, this time for Marte, the star second baseman who can be had for the right return. The Mariners have a need for another bat, and Marte would represent a massive upgrade over merely re-signing Suarez or <a data-player-guid=\"ddce8b46-7c9e-20b5-7e99-56723808563b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/32525\/jorge-polanco\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jorge Polanco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>Marte would slide in perfectly ahead of fellow All-Stars <a data-player-guid=\"b4376163-318a-7510-fe79-bbb7ee9acf0d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41044\/julio-rodriguez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julio Rodriguez<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"6c27dcb5-a741-d526-b5ac-f3988e288a70\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41292\/cal-raleigh\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cal Raleigh<\/a>, allowing <a data-player-guid=\"ff4e0d11-a441-34db-29d8-8567b71547b7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/36488\/randy-arozarena\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Randy Arozarena<\/a> to join Naylor in the middle of the lineup and giving Seattle arguably the best offense in the American League &#8212; to pair with what is likely the best pitching staff.<\/p>\n<p>Coming off a gut-wrenching loss in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, it&#8217;s the perfect move to push the M&#8217;s toward the first World Series berth in franchise history. And whether it&#8217;s <a data-player-guid=\"3659e459-a3bb-3404-b937-1f60cd542f4c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5080641\/cole-young\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cole Young<\/a>, Michael Arroyo or Felnin Celesten, the Mariners might have enough young, promising middle infielders to satisfy the D-backs&#8217; likely desire for a Marte replacement without parting with Colt Emerson. &#8212; Alden Gonzalez<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829460_778_bos.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Boston Red Sox for <a data-player-guid=\"e2897bf5-e89b-aaca-a7de-7e5dc498352a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41610\/jarren-duran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jarren Duran<\/a> and Kyson Witherspoon<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"4f21b684-60dc-336d-a11c-c5c765387ebd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5080767\/roman-anthony\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roman Anthony<\/a>&#8216;s 2025 breakout rendered Duran expendable in an outfield already staffed by <a data-player-guid=\"e6c4099e-80c4-3ee3-8cf9-dc4fc0a06b1c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4987382\/ceddanne-rafaela\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ceddanne Rafaela<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"c01c2305-33d5-3753-8529-79086533e04d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4990055\/wilyer-abreu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wilyer Abreu<\/a>, both of whom offer more remaining team control. And with presumed second-baseman-of-the-future <a data-player-guid=\"d5ca2809-2534-3435-b266-dc93bf302b93\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5201569\/kristian-campbell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kristian Campbell<\/a> struggling as a rookie (86 OPS+, -1.0 WAR), the door swung open for a move of this magnitude.<\/p>\n<p>Duran&#8217;s proclivity for doubles and triples will play beautifully in Arizona (just ask <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42404\/corbin-carroll\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Corbin Carroll<\/a>), and Witherspoon, the No. 15 pick in the 2025 MLB draft, instantly becomes the club&#8217;s best pitching prospect. &#8212; Paul Hembekides<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829460_778_bos.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829460_371_phi.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Red Sox should trade Duran to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ff1e263a-f6a6-93c3-1373-418623652ff0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/phi\/philadelphia-phillies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> for a package including <a data-player-guid=\"458877c2-2a07-a05c-ec2e-5ac6671c0a49\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41169\/alec-bohm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alec Bohm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>These lightning-rod players certainly are not coming off their best seasons and perhaps each needs the proverbial change of scenery. The Red Sox may need someone to play third base, and Bohm, while no match for <a data-player-guid=\"b28542aa-30be-6851-75c4-501226976e1c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/34886\/alex-bregman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Bregman<\/a>, is a capable hitter and defender. The Phillies could then get a more consistent third baseman who enjoys playing in Philadelphia. Duran would fill Philadelphia&#8217;s center-field need, and it would create some opportunity in a crowded Boston outfield. See, trades can work out for both teams! &#8212; Eric Karabell<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829460_142_cle.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/sea.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"6ad8fa03-36bc-baab-c76a-345b6544424d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/cle\/cleveland-guardians\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland Guardians<\/a> should trade <a data-player-guid=\"ac85b3fc-6fa7-c2c2-d53f-9047b5a3e8f4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41996\/steven-kwan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steven Kwan<\/a> to the Mariners <\/p>\n<p>I love this idea so much. Kwan would return to the West Coast, about a four-hour drive from Corvallis, where he starred for Oregon State. He would give the Mariners a needed upgrade at a corner outfield spot, teaming with Julio Rodriguez to improve Seattle&#8217;s outfield defense. Most importantly, he could slide into the leadoff spot, offering contact and OBP as a poor man&#8217;s Ichiro, hitting in front of Cal Raleigh, Rodriguez and his old Cleveland teammate, Josh Naylor. Let&#8217;s get this done. &#8212; Bradford Doolittle<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829460_650_chw.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"8f4800c6-3c05-b3d5-8186-9750cd72a3c2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/chw\/chicago-white-sox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago White Sox<\/a> should trade Luis Robert to the &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829461_124_kc.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a data-clubhouse-guid=\"11a5df00-0945-35a5-66fe-a3a107975558\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/kc\/kansas-city-royals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kansas City Royals<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Rumor mill whispering has connected the Royals with Boston&#8217;s Jarren Duran for the hefty price of <a data-player-guid=\"5b245474-0b1d-854e-10eb-1f70b7902e6e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41054\/cole-ragans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cole Ragans<\/a>, a swap I can&#8217;t abide. The Royals have starting pitching depth, but they don&#8217;t have ace depth and Ragans must stay. Duran isn&#8217;t an ideal defensive fit for Kauffman Stadium if you view him as a center fielder, and the Royals need to upgrade at that spot badly.<\/p>\n<p>Keep up with the 2025-26 MLB offseason<img decoding=\"async\" data-lazyload=\"true\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/r1516237_608x342_16-9.jpg\" class=\"round lazyload\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve got you covered on all the major hot stove signings and trades.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/46845936\/mlb-2025-26-free-agency-tracker-offseason-trades-moves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tracker \u00bb<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/46994593\/2025-26-mlb-offseason-grades-free-agency-trade-analysis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Free agency, trade grades \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enter Robert, whose work on strike zone judgment seemed to be paying off in the latter stages of last season. He&#8217;s younger than Duran and has more power upside without sacrificing speed and defense. The Royals&#8217; new hitting staff is hyper-focused on improving pitch recognition, and I&#8217;d love for them to be new voices in Robert&#8217;s ear. The Royals could keep Ragans and modulate their rotation\/prospect return based on Chicago&#8217;s willingness to pay down some of Robert&#8217;s $20 million for next season. Alas, this would be more palatable from a payroll perspective if the Royals had not already committed $8 million to run it back with <a data-player-guid=\"116f6cd6-5d0d-1827-42bc-c169f8e709f3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41171\/jonathan-india\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan India<\/a>. &#8212; Doolittle<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829460_371_phi.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia Phillies <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time. Time for Robert to find a new home and time for the Phillies to mix up the vibe a little. It&#8217;s possible that last season proved to be Robert&#8217;s current floor &#8212; good defense and 33 stolen bases will help teams win games. But it&#8217;s also just as possible the ceiling is still within reach after years of underachieving. First off, getting away from the Sox did wonders for <a data-player-guid=\"53a37f5e-6c7a-8de8-96e5-8dad9b2a9c37\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/40700\/gavin-sheets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gavin Sheets<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"9b658ca6-bfb0-3197-b69d-30ab8eb50d54\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42394\/andrew-vaughn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Vaughn<\/a>. The same could be true of Robert if he moves on, especially since he&#8217;s finally cutting his chase rate down.<\/p>\n<p>Now put him in a good lineup with even better pitches to see &#8212; and perhaps a little more pressure to perform &#8212; and the Philles could just get the best version of him. He has hit 28 homers in a season. He hit .338 in another (partial year). Put it all together and he might turn into a steal. &#8212; Jesse Rogers<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764829462_762_min.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"a6e97b3f-4244-98be-79a2-f4b33f3365e6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/min\/minnesota-twins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota Twins<\/a> should trade &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/lad.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Byron Buxton to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"fb7cf413-5156-9fc2-abe0-2273b89f70db\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/lad\/los-angeles-dodgers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This falls into the &#8220;Why? Because they can, that&#8217;s why&#8221; category. Enough is never enough for the Dodgers, so this offseason&#8217;s installment of making sure they have too much is the acquisition of the best available player at the position they may actually believe they need to upgrade. Move <a data-player-guid=\"4b69afe3-99a2-3385-839d-03c59238daa2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42468\/andy-pages\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Pages<\/a> to left, slot Buxton into the top half of the lineup and go for three in a row. &#8212; Tim Keown<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/nyy.png&#038;h=60&#038;w=60.png\" width=\"30\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"9b1bacc4-95aa-3a7c-903c-52669d180c7a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42450\/joe-ryan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Ryan<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"e9663276-76aa-09e3-7994-122393197416\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41587\/ryan-jeffers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Jeffers<\/a> to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2b9cedf3-ce60-0bcf-fafe-8cd055255685\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/nyy\/new-york-yankees\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Yankees<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ryan was a popular name at the trade deadline, and he&#8217;s popular again coming off an All-Star season with a rebuilding team and two years of team control remaining. The Yankees don&#8217;t need another front-line starter, but Ryan would give them some rotation stability early in the season with <a data-player-guid=\"af61347b-c222-7604-92c0-be4da7756430\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/32081\/gerrit-cole\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gerrit Cole<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"a1c10777-a90b-1d32-94ba-5e5ac51f4eab\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33696\/carlos-rodon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Rodon<\/a> (and <a data-player-guid=\"9a2e0362-5495-ef96-859b-f63294dcca5c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/41085\/clarke-schmidt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clarke Schmidt<\/a>) on the injured list, and he would supply insurance should Cole or Rod\u00f3n return later than usual or struggle upon return. And as these front offices like to say: You can never have enough starting pitching.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffers would quench the Yankees&#8217; need for a right-handed-hitting catcher after carrying three left-handed-hitting catchers for most of the 2025 season. That made him untradeable; it made no sense for the Marlins to deal him at the trade deadline with his value at a low point. Alcantara found his groove over his final 12 starts, however, posting a 3.13 ERA with 69 strikeouts versus 18 walks over 77 innings. It will be difficult for the A&#8217;s to lure a decent free agent starter to Sacramento &#8212; they had to overpay to sign Severino &#8212; so a trade makes sense. Alcantara is signed to a reasonable $17.3 million for 2026 with a $21 million club option for 2027, which even the A&#8217;s can afford.<\/p>\n<p>With the <a data-player-guid=\"3c91bc94-f039-3293-8b62-e6371ebaea0b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4966637\/nick-kurtz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Kurtz<\/a>-led offense, the A&#8217;s will score runs. If they can build out the rotation and bullpen, they have the look of 2026&#8217;s sleeper playoff team. His strikeout rate has declined from 25.5% to 20.0% since 2023, so that&#8217;s a minor cause for concern, but moving to the Giants, with better defense behind him and a stellar catcher in <a data-player-guid=\"9f9788a5-5e0e-3a03-bcb4-01585302e586\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4345843\/patrick-bailey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patrick Bailey<\/a> should help lower his batting average allowed.<\/p>\n<p>Do the Pirates have enough rotation depth to trade Keller? They need power, however, so the ask from the Giants would be their top prospect, first baseman <a data-player-guid=\"66ffd0c8-3c7d-3f8a-9660-5dbf26077aaf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5149064\/bryce-eldridge\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bryce Eldridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Too steep for the Giants? Perhaps. Eldridge has 35-homer potential and has produced while being very young for his levels, reaching Triple-A in 2025 at just 20 years old. He does have some holes in his game, with a 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, he struggled against breaking balls from left-handers, he has below-average speed and his defense at first base is fringy, so he might be a DH with <a data-player-guid=\"9a29840a-6ec6-8b17-995a-f01bc7567f2d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33859\/rafael-devers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rafael Devers<\/a> playing first.
