Courtney Kruk<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 40 radiation specialists marched out of Princess Alexandra Hospital at midday, while about 50 nuclear scientists gathered at the Botanic Gardens near Parliament House.<\/p>\n<p>The former Labor government introduced an allowance for radiation therapists in 2022 to recognise their specialised skills and increased scope of work.<\/p>\n<p>A similar interim allowance was negotiated for nuclear medicine scientists before the 2024 state election, and is due to expire at the end of December.<\/p>\n<p>Both amount to about $30,000 a year in pay.<\/p>\n<p>According to the United Workers\u2019 Union, the LNP government has said it will not include the allowance in the next enterprise bargaining agreement, which has been under negotiation since April.<\/p>\n<p>The union\u2019s Queensland Health and Ambulance Co-ordinator Fiona Scalon feared removing the allowance would lead to an exodus from the highly skilled professions, with some members telling the union they would move interstate if the cuts go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA $30,000 pay cut is nothing to be sneezed at,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Related Article<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brisbanetimes.com.au\/national\/queensland\/teacher-aides-school-cleaners-poised-to-accept-state-wage-deal-20251202-p5nk6f.html\" tabindex=\"-1\" class=\"sc-cba76dee-0 hLTVHY\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said he expected teacher aides and cleaners would accept the government\u2019s wage offer.\" aspectratios=\"[object Object]\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/16607a4ec73aaee6717a7024f2af61cacb667e13cb716b6abb70cff7ceb23f07.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d2942506-1 ffXaNQ\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have that stripped away means our people are going to be paid significantly less than the people doing the same work in other parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It] shows how little Queensland Health values their expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amelia Campbell, a radiation therapist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, was among staff who walked out on Wednesday.
