A serious crash on one of Perth’s major freeways brought train services to a halt and caused traffic chaos in the city’s south.<\/p>\n
Southbound traffic on the Kwinana Freeway was very heavy for almost 8 kilometres and came to a standstill through Jandakot and Cockburn.<\/p>\n
Train services on the Mandurah line, in both directions, were cancelled for several hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, just before 6pm Transperth announced Mandurah line services had resumed between Elizabeth Quay and Rockingham, although not to the usual timetable.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The crash damaged rail infrastructure in the freeway median, and also caused delays on the Yanchep line further north.<\/p>\n
The Thornlie-Cockburn Line was also down for a short period but is now running.<\/p>\n
Train replacement buses ran between Elizabeth Quay and Aubin Grove, although there were extensive queues to board some services.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Just before 5pm on Thursday, Main Roads WA said the crash had been cleared but train services were still impacted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Peak hour delays<\/p>\n
The crash, between a car and a truck, happened about 1pm just south of the North Lake and Armadale Road interchange.<\/p>\n
Details about injuries are unclear \u2014 but police say they have not yet received reports of any life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Vision from the news helicopter shows significant resources at the scene, with the inner lane of the freeway blocked off.<\/p>\n
The white car involved in the accident was extremely damaged.<\/p>\n
The truck involved looked to be carrying a trailer loaded with a few boxes, and a large set of wheels became detached from the vehicle.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While not clear at this stage how the crash happened, the damage to the rail lines brought more than 10 workers to the area.<\/p>\n
The power lines above the tracks appeared to have been damaged.\u00a0<\/p>\n
