All competitors on the ATP and WTA Tours must submit to rigorous testing to verify they are not using any prohibited substances.

Athletes caught violating these regulations face various penalties including monetary fines, suspensions and forfeiture of prize money.

Current rules mandate that players designate a one-hour timeframe when they will be accessible for unannounced testing at their residence, every single day of the year. Former Wimbledon winner Vondrousova, however, claimed she was compelled to provide a sample beyond that designated window after a drug tester’s visit. She recently issued a heartbreaking statement after her ‘toughest’ season.

She responded angrily on Instagram, arguing that her personal life was not being honored in a fiery declaration. The former Wimbledon champion wrote: “Every day, we are required to be home for one specific hour for doping control. I respect that rule every single day.

“Tonight, however, a tester arrived at 8:15pm and told me that my declared time doesn’t matter and that I must be tested right now. When I pointed out that it’s outside my testing window and a serious intrusion into my privacy, I was told: ‘This is the life of a professional athlete’.

“Is it normal for doping officers to sit in our living rooms at night waiting for us to pee? This is not about avoiding testing – it’s about respect. Respect for the rules that we follow, and for the personal life that we’re entitled to after a long day of training and competition. Rules should apply to everyone, even to those enforcing them.”

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) states that out-of-competition testing can take place at any moment, whether or not a player is part of the registered testing pool. Although testers try to minimize unnecessary interference, they bear no responsibility for any disruptions caused.

Athletes who fail to be present during their designated one-hour slot risk violating the ‘three strikes’ policy. This regulation stipulates that three missed tests within a 12-month span constitute an anti-doping breach equivalent to testing positive.

Such violations typically lead to suspensions lasting between one and two years. The length of a ban can be increased to four years, however, based on the level of the athlete’s culpability.

Several players have violated these regulations, including Mikael Ymer who received an 18-month suspension in 2023 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reversed his original acquittal.

Jenson Brooksby faced a similar outcome, serving a 13-month ban after officials determined his level of responsibility was ‘high’. Both athletes made their comeback to professional tennis in early 2025.

Marketa Vondrousova unleashed a scathing social media post following an unexpected visit from a drug tester, which she…

[565
64,63,85,747,6414
0":"post-327141","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-sports","11":"tag-tennis","12":"tag-tennis-section
["GET
