The team boasts 17 premierships, 17 All-Australian nods, six league captains and 19 best and fairest winners who have played 4,961 games and counting.<\/p>\n

Tasmania has a long and rich history in the game of football, and it’s set to be further entrenched when the Devils get underway.<\/p>\n

The approval of the Macquarie Point Stadium build – which was decided this week – has given the green light for the Devils’ introduction into the AFL<\/a> in 2028. But it is long overdue.<\/p>\n

Players such as Matthew Richardson, Ian Stewart, Nick Riewoldt<\/a>, Jack Riewoldt<\/a> and Grant Birchall<\/a> all hail from the Apple Isle but forged successful careers in the mainland.<\/p>\n

While there were many names stiff to miss, the talent and accolades spread across the field rank among football’s immortals.<\/p>\n

The backline is filled with modern-day players, with four of the defensive six preparing to suit up in 2026.<\/p>\n

Birchall’s career across Hawthorn – and Brisbane – was littered with success, winning four flags in the brown and gold.<\/p>\n

At the other end of the ground sees both Riewoldts suit up in the forest green, with Melbourne high flyer Russell Robertson and Fitzroy\/Brisbane champion Alastair Lynch donning the guernsey.<\/p>\n

Seth Campbell<\/a> and Mitch Robinson<\/a> also sneak into the side.<\/p>\n

Richmond premiership ruckman Toby Nankervis<\/a> leads the midfield alongside retired stars Paul Williams, Adrian Fletcher and Darryn Cresswell.<\/p>\n
