There was no big break-out star in the mold of Chappell
\nRoan, and nothing like Charli XCX\u2019s Brat to define the summer while pushing the
\nenvelope of pop music.<\/p>\n

For a lot of the year, the charts remained stubbornly static
\n\u2013 with huge songs like Alex Warren\u2019s Ordinary and Taylor Swift\u2019s Fate of
\nOphelia taking up all the oxygen.<\/p>\n

Some of the big stars who threatened to dominate the year had
\ntheir albums delayed (Doechii) or their tours cut short by ill health (Lola
\nYoung), while still racking up huge numbers on streaming.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Irish star CMAT saw her stocks rise, thanks
\nto a barnstorming third album, and some of the most effortlessly charismatic
\nfestival appearances of the summer.<\/p>\n

And guitar music staged a belated comeback, with artists
\nlike Sombr, Royel Otis and Sleep Token reinventing rock for the TikTok era.<\/p>\n

Olivia Dean was the UK\u2019s big breakout star, scoring four
\nconcurrent singles in the Top 20; while global girl group Katseye took the
\nK-pop template and applied it to Western pop \u2013 positioning themselves as a
\nforce to be reckoned with in 2026.<\/p>\n
