Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi<\/a> could finally move to Japan<\/a> Rugby League One, where he is believed to be a target for Kobelco Kobe Steelers, nearly three years after turning down a move to Tokyo Sungoliaths.<\/p>\n Kolisi, who led the Boks to a World Cup victory in Japan six years ago, was offered R25m (\u00a31.1m) a year by Suntory-owned Sungoliaths to join them after defending the Webb Ellis Cup in France<\/a> four years later.<\/p>\n However, All Blacks<\/a> legend Dan Carter persuaded him to join Racing 92<\/a> instead, in a move that was far from successful, and he left under a cloud after only one year of his three-year deal.<\/p>\n Racing 92 president Jacky Lorenzetti launched a scathing attack following a Top 14<\/a> quarter-final loss to Bordeaux, claiming that the Springbok legend had put on weight and was \u201cinvisible\u201d.<\/p>\n Kolisi returned to his former club, the Sharks, after American businessman Vincent Mai paid a transfer fee of R17m (\u00a3726,000), and it is widely known that he is interested in moving to Japan before ending his career.<\/p>\n But time is running out for Kolisi, who became the ninth South African player to reach 100 Test caps when South Africa<\/a> beat France 32-17 in Paris last month, as he turns 35 next June.<\/p>\n Japan plans to introduce new eligibility rules from the 2026-27 season that will limit the number of foreign players on the field at any one time, prompting players to consider their options.<\/p>\n Japan remains a lucrative hunting ground for Springboks, with the likes of Cheslin Kolbe<\/a>, Faf de Klerk<\/a>, Jesse Kriel<\/a>, Malcolm Marx<\/a>, Kwagga Smith<\/a> and Manie Libbok<\/a> all plying their trade in Japan\u2019s leagues.<\/p>\n Kolisi, who has scored two tries in his two United Rugby Championship<\/a> games against Ulster<\/a> and the Scarlets<\/a> this season, may be the next big name to follow them into the arrivals hall.<\/p>\n The Steelers, who were the first-ever Top League champions in 2004, have not won a title since 2019 and believe Kolisi could be the player to change that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"mens united-rugby-championship Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu (R) of South Africa celebrates after he is presented with the shirt of South…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":327386,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[567],"tags":[64,63,760,85],"class_list":{"0":"post-327385","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-rugby","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-rugby","11":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/327385","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=327385"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/327385\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/327386"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=327385"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=327385"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=327385"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
