{"id":327553,"date":"2025-12-04T16:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T16:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/327553\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T16:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T16:52:09","slug":"teddy-atlas-names-the-most-powerful-puncher-in-the-history-of-boxing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/327553\/","title":{"rendered":"Teddy Atlas names the most powerful puncher in the history of boxing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Teddy Atlas named the likes of Mike Tyson, George Foreman and Sugar Ray Robinson in his top 10 list of pound-for-pound punchers, but only one man\u2019s fists were potent enough to claim the number-one spot.<\/p>\n<p>In a sport where punching power plays a key role, not least in the heavyweight division, it is perhaps unsurprising that this list compiles several all-time greats.<\/p>\n<p>Heavyweight legend Joe Louis, for instance, features at number eight, with Atlas crediting the \u2018Brown Bomber\u2019 for his tremendous balance and positioning.<\/p>\n<p>It could be said that a more unexpected entry, meanwhile, is \u2018Iron Mike\u2019 at number seven, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/features\/mike-tysons-5-quickest-knockouts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as Tyson\u2019s ruthless surge throughout the 1980s would likely inspire many others to place him further up the list.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But Atlas, of course, has history with Tyson, and even when removing any bias from the equation, the former trainer\u2019s top five remains an almost impossible category to penetrate.<\/p>\n<p>Coming in at number five, then, is \u2018Big George\u2019 Foreman, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/44361995\/george-foreman-was-more-champion-was-guy-always-reinventing-himself\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">whose stoppage victories over the likes of Joe Frazier and Ken Norton during the 1970s makes him an obvious pick.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fans should have few qualms, too, with Atlas\u2019 selection of Earnie Shavers \u2013 perhaps the hardest-hitting heavyweight of all time \u2013 at number four.<\/p>\n<p>There should equally be few complaints with Robinson, arguably the greatest fighter of all time, and former world featherweight champion Sandy Saddler being positioned at number three and number two, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>As for his view on the hardest puncher of all time, Atlas, while speaking on his YouTube channel, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/UFHp-FGDZBE?si=vzt_Icxh1Cx0QWRm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas<\/a>, afforded himself no other option but to select light-heavyweight great Archie Moore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt number one, can\u2019t argue the math, can\u2019t argue the myth, can\u2019t argue the man\u2026 How long he was around, how special he was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t get treated fairly \u2013 they didn\u2019t give him a world title shot until he was in his late, middle 30s. But, once he got [the world light-heavyweight title], he held onto it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou gotta be special when they call you the \u2018Old Mongoose\u2019 \u2013 smart, but he was also deadly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArchie Moore: [219 professional fights, with 132 knockouts].
