Here\u2019s something you might not have expected: Radio 1\u2019s biggest
\nsong of 2025 was inspired by Michael Jackson\u2019s 1987 single The Way You Make Me
\nFeel, and Haribo\u2019s insanely fizzy Tangfastic sweets.<\/p>\n

The revelation comes from Olivia Dean herself, who explained
\nthe writing of Man I Need in an interview with the hit podcast And the Writer
\nIs…<\/p>\n

\u201cI came in that day and there was a lot of
\nenergy in the room,\u201d she recalled. <\/p>\n

And I was like, \u2018Guys, let’s make something really fun. I want to make something I can dance to. I want to make something that when I perform live, it’s just gonna be like a Tangfastic.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started with the drum beat and I was like, \u2018Yeah, I want
\nto do something kind of like Michael\u2019s The Way You Make Me Feel-esque\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I sat at the Wurly [a Wurlitzer electric
\npiano] and we kind of just, like, wrote it.”<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s that simple, maybe we should all have a go. I\u2019m
\nbasing next year\u2019s number one on the beat to Madonna\u2019s Material Girl and a pack
\nof Bourbon biscuits.<\/p>\n

But seriously, from all that frivolity came an absolute
\nbelter of a song – classic in the best sense, full of warmth and nostalgia
\nwithout ever feeling forced.<\/p>\n

No wonder it\u2019s topped the chart.<\/p>\n
