{"id":329215,"date":"2025-12-05T10:32:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T10:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/329215\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T10:32:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T10:32:07","slug":"ktm-runs-new-850cc-motogp-engine-on-track-for-the-first-time-at-jerez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/329215\/","title":{"rendered":"KTM runs new 850cc MotoGP engine on track for the first time at Jerez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KTM has become the first manufacturer to reveal it has track tested an 850cc MotoGP engine during a private outing at Jerez, as it ramps up preparations for the 2027 rule change.<\/p>\n<p>From the 2027 season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MotoGP<\/a> will move away from the 1000cc engine formula that has been in place since 2012 in favour of 850cc motors.<\/p>\n<p>As well as a change in engine, ride height devices will be banned, and aerodynamics will be stripped back.<\/p>\n<p>The idea behind this is to improve safety and increase overtaking opportunities during races.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturers have so far been guarded about their 2027 engine development, which one Aprilia engineer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/news\/1081972\/1\/2027-motogp-engine-development-cost-suicide-claims-one-engineer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called a \u201ccost suicide\u201d<\/a> during a media scrum at the San Marino Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>KTM offers biggest sign yet of its plans to stay in MotoGP<\/p>\n<p>For much of this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/red-bull-ktm-factory-racing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KTM<\/a>\u2019s MotoGP future has been a question mark, owing to the major financial crisis that enveloped the brand last winter.<\/p>\n<p>But the motorsport side has remained committed to continuing in MotoGP, with KTM revealing a few weeks ago the first glimpse of its 850cc engine running on a dyno.<\/p>\n<p>Now, during a private test at Jerez this week, KTM shared a clip of Pol Espargaro riding a prototype version of the 850cc bike.<\/p>\n<p>Espargaro captioned the clip: \u201cHear that? The future just fired up.
