{"id":329293,"date":"2025-12-05T11:24:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T11:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/329293\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T11:24:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T11:24:13","slug":"cavaliers-fined-250000-for-resting-darius-garland-in-national-tv-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/329293\/","title":{"rendered":"Cavaliers fined $250,000 for resting Darius Garland in national TV game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK &#8212; The NBA fined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.sg\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/cle\/cleveland-cavaliers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> $250,000 on Thursday for violating the league&#8217;s player participation policy by resting All-Star guard <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4396907\/darius-garland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Darius Garland<\/a> for a nationally televised game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.sg\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/tor\/toronto-raptors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Raptors<\/a> on Nov. 24.<\/p>\n<p>It is the second time this season the Cavaliers have been fined for violating the policy. They received a $100,000 fine Nov. 18 for resting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3908809\/donovan-mitchell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donovan Mitchell<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4432158\/evan-mobley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Evan Mobley<\/a> against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.sg\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/mia\/miami-heat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Heat<\/a> on Nov. 12.<\/p>\n<p>The league said an investigation confirmed that Garland was able to play in one of the team&#8217;s games in a back-to-back set. He played Nov. 23 at home against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.sg\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/lac\/la-clippers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LA Clippers<\/a> but not the next night in Toronto, which was carried by Peacock in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada. Garland is considered a star player under the policy.<\/p>\n<p>The Raptors extended their winning streak to eight games with a 110-99 victory.
