There was always something new to see or someone new to meet.

“Now I feel like I’ve just slipped back into my old life, and nothing’s really changed,” the deflated Aussie shared on Reddit.

Explaining what they believe makes Australia inferior to the UK, the Redditor slammed “cliquey” social circles and a “monotonous” daily routine.

“People here seem so shut off from the rest of the world, you can’t have a proper conversation about global topics.

“The social circles are quite cliquey, the humour doesn’t hit the same, and there’s this general lack of culture and community spirit.

“And don’t get me started on the pubs. So many of them are just big, soulless pokies venues now.

“There’s not much to do besides the same daily routine…get up early, go for a coffee, maybe hit the beach, and repeat. It’s nice, but it gets monotonous fast,” they wrote.

The Aussie concluded the post saying they “really wish I didn’t feel this way” and that they have “had a good time so far”, but they are “missing the previous life I had in the UK”.

The post sparked dozens of responses from Australians who resonated with the Redditor’s dilemma.

“I have exactly the fears you do, in fact, the prospect of living in the Australian suburbs is really depressing me. What really gets me is that it’s hard to go anywhere and there is nowhere to really go apart from the beach or the bush.

“Everything is car-dependent, everything is spread out, not much is walkable, and the bush is all pretty much the same everywhere,” wrote one Australian who’s been living in Asia for 15 years.

“It’s slow back home and there really is not that much going on. It’s far from everything. Boring lazy corporate space. Australia is a retirement home these days. I will go back one day for that but I get to go every year for several months and always ready to go by the end,” said another Aussie currently living in the US.

“Living in Melbourne and Australia in general depresses me too much. It’s a really boring and monotonous culture and lifestyle. We are too isolated and too far away from the fun and interesting countries. Yes, [Australia] offers security and good jobs, but somehow it’s still unfulfilled,” a third person added.

Some other Reddit users provided some advice to the Aussie, encouraging them to move beyond a “grass is greener” mindset.

“Aussie here who lived in London for 7 years. I can really relate to what you’re feeling, I look back to my time in the UK now as such an experience…and now back in Sydney we feel a little stuck and constrained.

“But, I’m looking at it also through the lens of memories past, we tend to forget or gloss over the bad stuff, like the dysfunctional NHS, massive rent, summers where our flat turns into an oven, long cold dark damp winters, ridiculous cost of trains and fuel, etc.

“The grass is always greener. We might get back but at the same time there’s a lot to love about where we currently live,” one person wrote.

“I totally get this. That feeling of going back but everything feeling… different. Maybe exploring what specifically you miss about your UK life could help you decide your next steps. Sometimes it’s about finding that spark again, wherever you are,” another suggested.

An Australian has shared the major reasons they “regret” moving back to Australia after living in the UK…

[4
64,63,184645,106085,166037,44,2579,3586
0":"post-329918","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-australia","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-australian-culture","11":"tag-brits","12":"tag-expat","13":"tag-news","14":"tag-reddit","15":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
