Bee, who rose to fame as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart before launching her own show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,<\/a> made the comments during a recent appearance on the Breaking Bread with Tom Papa podcast. <\/p>\n Discussing the show\u2019s cancellation, actor and comedian Tom Papa noted that Colbert\u2019s show had been losing $40m a year, and that its \u201cparent company is trying to curry favour with the president\u201d in light of the Paramount<\/a> and Skydance merger<\/a>. <\/p>\n The Late Show is broadcast by CBS. Owned by Paramount, it relies on the Trump-controlled Federal Communications Commission to approve its $8bn sale to Skydance.<\/p>\n In response, Bee said that she thought the decision to end the show was \u201cawful\u201d, but did concede that it was losing money: \u201cThese legacy shows are haemorrhaging money with no real end to that \u2013 in sight, people are just not tuning in.\u201d <\/p>\n Bee said that she was \u201cshocked, not surprised\u201d to hear of Colbert\u2019s cancellation, adding that she considers him to be a friend.<\/p>\n open image in gallery<\/p>\n Samantha Bee hosted ‘Full Frontal’ from 2016 until 2022 (Getty Images)<\/p>\n The 55-year-old added: \u201cPeople are literally on their phones all the time for one thing, so they actually don\u2019t necessarily need a recap of the day\u2019s events. They\u2019re very well-versed in what has happened.\u201d <\/p>\n She also touched on the vital role that Trump plays <\/a>in corporate mergers. \u201cIt is also true that when the president of the United States has to give his sign-off on a corporate merger, the thing you can\u2019t do is make jokes about him,\u201d she said. The US president often found himself the target of Colbert\u2019s jokes on-air. <\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a thin-skinned idiot and we know he\u2019s like a pernicious cancer and he cares about that stuff,\u201d said Bee of Trump. <\/p>\n She recalled how when she was the host of Full Frontal, corporate mergers were a \u201cconstant source of conversation\u201d as broadcasters were wary of not causing any trouble amid the multi-billion-dollar transactions.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so much easier for them to cut it loose with this merger coming down the pike,\u201d she said of Colbert\u2019s series. \u201cIt makes the decision such a no-brainer, and probably the most agonising decisions they were having were about how do we float this? How do we not get a lot of blowback?
