These days, Dwayne Johnson is a global superstar, but even he had to start somewhere, and one of his earliest screen roles was a guest appearance on Star Trek: Voyager<\/a>. It was a small but memorable step in his transition from the wrestling ring to Hollywood. At the time, Johnson had only notched a couple of minor TV credits, but it was Star Trek that first made him feel genuinely welcomed into the acting world.<\/p>\n

Dwayne Johnson Thought Jeri Ryan Was Amazing <\/p>\n

Johnston appeared in Tsunkatse, an episode of the sixth season of Voyager. The story followed Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) after she was abducted while on a survey mission and forced by her captors to fight in an arena for the entertainment of others. Johnson\u2019s character was one of the champions, and he even tossed in a few of The Rock\u2019s classic moves.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Moovy TV<\/a>, Johnson reflected on his time on Voyager. \u201cAt that time, I wanted experience as an actor,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd I was taking these roles, these cameos on these television shows, and they had come to me and said, \u2018Hey, are you interested in doing Star Trek: Voyager?\u2019 I said, \u2018Yeah! I would love to. Let\u2019s do it.\u2019\u201c<\/p>\n

Johnson singled out Jeri Ryan as being particularly welcoming. \u201cAnd the crew, the cast, everybody was so awesome, but very specifically, Jeri Ryan was AMAZING,\u201d he said. \u201cShe was so welcoming and warm. I had never done anything before in terms of acting. You know, I come from the world of wrestling, and in a way, that is performance, but cues, marks, dialogue and all that was still very new to me. But Jeri was so amazing and so cool and gorgeous and blew me away how just wonderfully welcoming she was.\u201c<\/p>\n

Other Shows Weren\u2019t as Welcoming to Johnson<\/p>\n

In some of the other shows Johnson appeared in, he got the sense that the cast was a little annoyed that this wrestler was trying to become an actor. \u201cAt that time in my career, I\u2019d do this show, and that show. It was just cameo, cameo, cameo. And these shows were pretty popular shows, and the stars of those shows were popular stars,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd so a lot of times, they knew, \u2018Oh, we\u2019re going to get this person coming in from the world of wrestling.\u2019 Sometimes I would show up on these sets, and it was a little bit of like, \u2018Here we go again, another guy, he\u2019s never acted before, gotta carry the baggage.\u2018\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cAnd I would feel that energy from some of these folks, and I got it, and I\u2019d just try to get through the day and try to learn as much as I could. But Jeri was never like that, she was f***ing cool, man. Moments like that I don\u2019t forget, because it\u2019s a great reminder: People always remember how you treat them.\u201d They sure do.<\/p>\n

I do recall watching that episode back in the day. I was never much of a wrestling fan, so I wasn\u2019t overly aware of Johnson\u2019s impact in the ring. However, who would have thought that he\u2019d become an action superstar and even headline acclaimed (yet commercially unsuccessful<\/a>) dramas like The Smashing Machine<\/a>?<\/p>\n
